Dpoll 56: Which time fits you better?

It's not because I'm old I like the old times including older things more as the modern stuff.

If it comes to certain things like buildings, paintingingd, sculptures, furniture and cars it all looks way better.
I love organic forms not those modern "lines". I never liked Picasso or Mondrian and all modern, plastic cars look exactly the same to me.

This car looks a billion times better as what is designed these days.
At the same time it feels to me as if the lines and shapes of buildings, cars, equipment, etc do not fit to this modern time. There's no beauty in it and I doubt a time will come people look back at the great "art" of this century.

Vintage seems to be popular these days.
Many are willing to spend high amounts for clothes and furniture of the 60s-70s. Most of it we threw away and if we look back at that time we can't say we looked fashioned.

Do you like antiques, vintage or does the present time fit you better?

I'd love to go back to the 1980s before mobile phones and internet.

Thank you for your vote.
The good old days where snail mail was mail. Does the mobile phone bothers you? We had phone at that time too. No one ever calls me. 😁

Thank you for your vote. You (still) own things from that period?

Some, yeah. Mostly some furniture and records. I just like that era the best, even if I don't own many things from it.

I was born in '87, so I grew up in the 90's. I miss the nostalgia of those days, prior to, or when modern technologies were still in their infant stages. Cell phones didn't exist yet, and you dial-up internet, if you were lucky. I feel more time was spent living in the moment then.

You know my dialup internet was better and faster as what I struggle with since the past 8 years?
At that time internet was luxury and you used it for some hours. Tv was better too. No never ending commercials, 24/24 tv with us. It was for sure the time people had still time to engage, party, visit eachother and no one called you after 6 pm now telemarketers do 24/24.
Thank you for your vote 💕

That stinks that you have to deal with poor internet service. Where are you located?

It's nice to be a little older and to have actually lived at a time where you had to have a conversation face to face. Kids are basically born with phones and tablets in their hands. They may be able to message one another quickly, but I feel they lack the real life social skills that we developed as children. Maybe it helps them expand their world and allows them to talk to a more diverse group of people. Who knows? I guess we'll see in the future.

I have a bad connection as long as I remember (17 years by now from which I spent 10 in a capital city in a Provence in the Netherlands). Making phone calls was a burden for years too.
None of my children was born with a phone in their hand but if one is addicted to it it's the eldest (36). My daughter (28) and si care less and started with a smartphone about 4 years ago mainly to stay in touch. Now my computer is broke I use it as a computer. I leave it at home if I go out unless I drive for a day or two. No one ever calls me except people who try to sell me something or have something to complain which are strangers mainly. The youngest two have a phone now but are not allowed to take it with them to school. If a phone rings none of us will hurry to answer it. We text or use WhatsApp (mainly WhatsApp) I will see the answer sooner or later.
I think it's mainly how you raise your children. I always ask how they are going. We eat together and talk about the day, what keeps them/us busy. To many a phone is easy too to keep the children busy. My youngest and eldest have a age difference of over 20 years and they have better things to do, keep themselves busy. We do not watch tv either.

That is a large age gap between your children, but it's great you all are able to get along. Also I agree with what you said about how many people just throw an iPad in their child's lap and call it a day. While it may be the easier thing to do, it's a huge disservice to the kid. Children need real life interactions to learn and grow.

I wish you all the best. I hope you're having a good day. I'm sure I'll talk to you on another post soon :)

Yes, it is but it doesn't seem to be a problem to any of them and it never was. They have a lot in common, all are creative, love peace, being alone, read, do their own stuff and are happy to see each other.
