Dpoll 42: Do you throw away what is over its expiry date?

Today I threw away a pot of Marmite.

It was 7 years over its expiry date. This was not the reason I threw it away but none of us like the taste and we do not know what to do with it.
As I was a child the expire date on articles did not exist. By now it is common. No matter what it is about, bandages, plasters, ink, soap, shampoo or food (exception fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts) there is or should be a fabrication date and expiring or "able to consume till at least" date on it.

"Expiring date" means it is so longer good.
"Able to consume at least till" means the manufacturer guarantees you can consume it till at least this date (you mainly see this on fresh products like diaries).

Tests proved food/articles are seldom spoiled.
Canned food is still good after twenty years and you will not get food poison by eating it. If it's spoiled it is already after it was produced.
There is a lot of food that cannot get spoiled at all.
Still these dates are printed on the products and people throw it away, even a big part of what they bought because it stood in the cupboard too long.

If I buy something I look at the date but once I bought it I do not care of my vacuum or canned food, the peanutbutter, flour, salt, oil, species, pasta, herbs or sugar is over the expiring date.
It's my nose and taste that tells me if I can eat it.

Do you easily throw away what is expired?

Go for others. I do throw them away if they don't taste any good even before it's expiry date. Like you said, some of the high sugar content or salted food has a very long storage span, those food can never grow bad because bacteria weren't able to grow. That however, greatly depending on the container that store those food. If it allows the food get contaminated, then Houston we have a problem. You can't eat those food anymore.

Common sense is the best. I didn't expect the outcome of this poll. Thought people would no longer throw away food that easily. 🤔❤️

A few weeks ago I drank many glasses of tea, which I made with tea filters that are expired in 2010. Yes, 10 years ago, but it was delicious tea, so it was not bad.
A friend of mine gave them to me a few months ago. I think it was in 2019 november.
Today (2020.02.02) I ate a bread, which expired on 2020.01.31.
The food is still good and edible. I am not going to trow away a good food.

@xplosive Good to hear that. I use it too I seldom saw in my life something that was spoiled. Only three times. A can soup and it was still closed, a smoked sausage vacuum packed and cheese. These 3 items were not over the date for months.

👍❤️

Those dates are just suggestions. If a food is bad, you'll know it's bad.

I haven't thrown away food that I bought in a long time.

@sharkthelion Thank you for your vote. Neither did I the Marmite I did. If possible I give it to someone else if it's not my taste and a gift.

Even for the dogs I rarely have leftovers to give to. ❤️

Is there a reason why? It harmed your health? The soap, kitchen paper, toilet paper, the washing up liquid, shampoo, teabags, coffee bags, salt, sugar, flour or?
