Butterfly House Update - Part 2

in #nature8 years ago (edited)

Here are a few photos of some butterflies currently flying around at the butterfly house where I volunteer as a docent.

Two Giant Swallowtails
Note these are the same kinds of butterfly!
They just have different coloring and patterns on the top and bottom side of their wings.

These next 3 photos are of a Queen butterfly.
They look a lot like a Monarch, but the do have different markings on their wings.
The Queen female does lay her eggs on milkweed plants, just like the Monarch.

Which one is your favorite?

I love them all and of course, it is much easier to photograph them in the enclosed butterfly house.
Don't worry, there are plenty of nectar flowers for all of the butterflies in the house.

Yesterday I posted a few other photos in Part 1. Here

Have a Blessed Day!

My favorite are the giant swallows! How beautiful they are and how big they look. You're a really interesting person, @violetmed. To try so hard to bring that footage over here is a beautiful gesture on his part. May God bless you.

You are so kind, thank you!

I like the swallowtail. So interesting that the patterns on top and bottom of its wings are so different. Beautiful photos :)

Thank you!

The first two photos are a black swallowtail :-) They seem to show up for a few days every summer, where I live. I haven't seen a white swallowtail here, though. Nice to see a monarch in there, too!

You are correct, swallowtails show up in about the middle of the summer here in the Dallas, Texas area. Not sure where you live.

I haven't seen one up here in Minnesota, yet this summer. If memory serves, they came through in early August last year.

Wow you must have taken them pretty close this is so beautiful, how did they manage to stay still?

Swallowtails are pretty easy to photograph and others are just happy to rest on the flowers and plants inside the butterfly house allowing plenty of time for photographs!

Really hard to choose a favorite but probably the last one ... some interesting shapes and I love the added purple color:)

They are all beautiful:)

Beautiful photographs @violetmed. I think I like the underside of the wings more than the top side.

Looks like you've got a great opportunity for photos there. 😊

The queen butterflies look very pretty and colorful, @violetmed. I guess they're not that big. I imagine they must have a group of specialists there, as well as you, beautiful lady, to inform visitors of all the details they want to know about butterflies. Greetings and thanks.

Yes, there are people who plant the nectaring flowers for the butterflies and other people to water the plants and yes other docents volunteer in the butterfly house.

I imagine that space and I feel like it's magical. I think I'd die photographing all the butterflies. They're all beautiful, @violetmed. I can't pick just one. They're all queens. Greetings and thanks for that part 2.

Oh, what beautiful butterflies! And to see them so close is amazing. How did you keep them from flying? I really admire you, @violetmed. A hug

Gosh they are beautiful.
