Miniatures and a new card game from Fantasy Flight

in #games6 years ago

This is what happens when you step into a game store full of nerds...

@kommienezuspadt, @guthrie, his half brother and I journeyed to the game store for Pokémon league, which is held on Saturdays. I used to collect Pokémon cards (until some punks stole my holographic rares) but I never played the card game. I figured that I’d let the kids play while I sketched on my iPad with my partner. What I hadn’t anticipated was seeing the shops old store manager, Chelsea. She immediately asked what I had going on and then invited me to paint miniatures. How could I say no?

Apparently she hangs out at the shop every other Saturday with a group of friends and they all paint miniatures. I was wowed by the paint sets and the skill shown on the finished figures. I’ll have to snap photos when I get the chance.

I got to choose from this set of 5 chaos cultists. I picked the guy in the upper left because I liked his mask.

Here’s what he looks like before priming. I got a little bit of praise from Chelsea for my spray can spraying skills. Her exact words were, “It’s nice to see someone who knows how to handle one of those things.” 😏

I didn’t get very far with my painting but I did make plans to meet Chelsea and her friend at the next gathering. That was after I apologized to her for wasting a small puddle of acrylic. I’m still getting used to thinning out the paint so I can layer the coats.

Before we left @kommienezuspadt picked up three packs of Keyforge : Call of the Archons. It’s a new card game from Richard Garfield which consists of an entirely unique set of 37 cards. Apparently it’s hard to find these decks because they’re selling out so quickly. @kommienezuspadt’s working on learning how to play the game right now.

Have you heard of Keyforge? Please, fill me in and show me your card playing ways!

Thanks for stopping by to read about my nerdy day! 🦊

Oh, yeah, I bought one deck in December 2018. While some friends of mine had cool looking stuff I found my deck not very interesting. It was Mars, Shadow and Sanctum. The Sanctum were strong, the Shadow were pretty decent, but the Mars were... dumb. They were nothing but fodder. Nope, not impressed with my aliens.

Oh, goodness. I still haven’t opened up my deck yet so I have no idea what to expect!
