Jackal drawing from my first @dlive art session!

in #art8 years ago (edited)

Yesterday, I did my first dlive stream! This post is for those who aren’t looking to sit in for the full 2+ hours. If you are interested then check it out by clicking here.

Yesterday, I started off my day in a somber mood. The previous night I had experienced a stressful dream and was placed in situations where the worst case scenario came true. To sum it up- I took a flight but couldn’t return home because my passport was missing, a group of people (including myself) were being chased by this monster which had rotting limps that would tear off once it caught you, and then my dream ended with mygrandmother being on her death bed but missing her last moments of life.

So, I arrived at @caffetto willing myself to produce some work. I had issues focusing because of subtle distractions. I did do some shoe/pose studies which turned out good but I still felt down.

That was when @kommienezuspadt pretty much forced me to start my first @dlive stream. It was a little nerve racking to know that others were watching me work. If you tuned in yesterday then you would’ve seen 25 minutes of uncertainty.

Check out the time lapse recording above if you’d like to see a sped up version of what I accomplished the previous day.

While streaming, I had some references pulled up and I couldn’t get anything solid to form. My palms were sweating and I didn’t know if it was from the rising temperatures inside the coffee shop or if it was pressure from doing the stream. Eventually, I calmed down once I sketched out an outline that statisified my taste.

I selected a darker color to add more details and define the shape of the Jackal. What I’m most proud of is the shape of the snout. I’ve noticed that a slight change in shape can turn one particular animal into an entirely different breed.

I added in some shading with the Round Brush tool to help me map out the tones.

I went in with the 6B Pencil tool in an even darker shade to add more variations of texture.

Darker shadows to give it more shape. The eyes seem to pop more here.

I was worried that others wouldn’t connect this with an image of a jackal so I did a wash of color.

Thanks for stopping by to view my progress shots!

Would you like to see me finish this image on Dlive or should I think about a new image? 🦊

Thanks so much @veryspider! ^^ I haven’t had any stressful dreams since that night. Thank goodness!

I’m surprised by the end result of this image too. Thank you for appreciating its beauty!

Ugh it's terrible how a stressful dream can just stick with you. Sometimes, when I wake, the details of a dream will fade away so quickly that by the time my eyes are fully opened I've forgotten what happened, but that feeling and emotion just sticks around. Not a fun way to start the day. I'm glad to see you managed to shake it, or make it work... I've found negative emotions sometimes help fuel creativity. I really like the light wash of color that you added. And that face is beautiful.

It was definitely one of those days where I was feeling a bit off. I sat and talked with a few people and when I started this drawing all those thoughts faded away. I’m really glad it’s face didn’t turn out horse like! Lol

Hi! @vermillionfox. I've just been browsing my feed. And I saw Musings XXIV

Those sexy poses are so lovelys... They cheered my days!

Cheers!

nice post @vermillionfox

Wow, superb! So delicate and dreamy, but so alive. And the compositon is very nice! This jackal reminds me remotely of a Fennec fox. The dlive video is very cool, I haven't tried making videos myself yet, how do you feel now, after recording it? Do you think that you're going to livestream more, or start making videos? I imagine it requires courage to show one's artistic process, and you did really fantastic. I would love to see more of your videos and to know how are you :)

It does resemble a fennec fox! I love those critters. It’s still a little weird to know people are watching me draw. I guess it would be worse if someone was actually sitting next to me, gradually leaning into my personal bubble. 🤣 I’m planning do another dlive and I’ve noted that I need to do a warmup before I stream.

Hey that looks quite good if you ask me 🌹
And nice progress/tutorial, some very useful tips there!
👏👏👏

Thanks!!! I’ll have to find the time do more of these. :)

I looove the warm colors. I've always been fascinated by digital art, it looks easy but it's actually super hard, but oh the posibilites are endless. Loved this <3

I find digital art a little easier than traditional because you’re given second chances when mistakes are made. I also agree with you because the possibilities are indeed endless. :)
