Music is magic, music is Emotion: John Mayer
For many years ago I was introduced to John Mayer by my good friend Danny Samar. I already knew, without knowing it, some of his songs. This were very sweet sounding pop songs, not the kind of songs which realt got my attention. Danny showed me a dvd, "Where the light is".

This DVD is something special. It shows three different concerts in on concert. A concert all acoustic, one with the John Mayer Trio and one with the John Mayer band. All different but all John. Danny showed me the DVD because of the John Mayer Trio, a blues trio with Steve Jordan on drums and Pino Palladino on bass. This combination was from another planet, the groove of the bass and drums and the guitarplay of John Mayer where phenomenal.... Something I don't really had heard before.
The guitarplay of John reminded me a bit of stevie ray vaughan (including the styled guitars), the drums of Steve Jordan were so spot on and of course the bassplaying of Pino.....There is no better.....

When you here this song "Good Love" you will understand exactly what I mean. This swings...This make sense....Everthing is just right..
After me watching the DVD I dived a bit more into the music of John Mayer. What I learned is that his live performances are just brilliant... He is a gifted guitarist... But his studio work (besides the John Mayer Trio) is a bit to sweet for me...

John Mayer was in Holland last month, unlucky for me I was to late for tickets, but next time I won't .... I am very sure about that :)

Luckily for you with a good audio set the oldy “where the light is” is still a reference recording. One of the first blu-rays I preferred the TrueHD track instead of the stereo one. You need a good sub to hear (and feel) the lower bass from this recording but when you have this record is jaw-dropping😍

Nice write up. I didn't realize that he did stuff with other bands. I knew he was a very talented guitarist, but I thought he did just solo stuff. I am going to have to check the other stuff out. Thanks for sharing. That sucks that you weren't able to see him in concert.
