Florida and the Florida keys (7)
Florida part one

Florida part four
Florida part five
Florida part six
This is the last part in the Florida series, a throwback at our trip to Florida.

Our last stop was Miami beach. We stayed there for 5 days. We thought it would be nice to enclose the holiday with some days at the beach and with some Miami Vice :)
On
When we entered Miami on the right there was already a port where the big cruiseships stopped. On the picture a ship from Norway.

One of the things I already knew from Miami was "Star Island". This is a real island on which some real celeb's live / have houses. For instance Gloria Estefan lives there. We did drove (because I loved to see it) to Star Island. You can enter the Island trough a bridge, so we entered. We didn't knew there was this security fence at the end guarded by a private guard. So we couldn't get on the Island. Funny thing was that behind us there were already some other cars waiting to enter. The guard was a bit annoyed, and he is right I guess he see those darn tourists every single day :).
We had booked a hotel right behind Ocean Drive. When we arrived we were positively surprised, it looked awesome.

The kids enjoyed it too, they had their own room with TV :)
In Miami Beach there aren't a lot of parking places, so it was quiet normal to use Valet Parking. And so we did, we could ask for our car any time and within 15 minutes the cars was in front of the hotel.
We just had to walk one street and trough a small park and we were on the beach. It was huge and not that crowded at that moment because of the weather.
.

A lot of Hotels still used the old school fonts for their logo which I knew from the hit serie Miami Vice :)

Of course Miami is a place to see and to be seen with all the fancy cars (for rent hahaha). My kids loved it.
Almost entire Miami beach consists of Hotels and restaurants, Ocean drive for instance completely is covered by (expensive) bar's and restaurants.

This car was positioned on a strategic place for extra commercial value for a escape room. It worked, a lot of people stopped at the car to have a look, if they also visited the escape room I don't know :)
The car was totally crafted out of Iron an welded together :)
Of course there were also the newer sportscars ;)
Espanola Way

Espanola way is a awesome street full of cool restaurants with a spanish touch. In the early 1920's it was founded for a artist colony. Not so long ago they revitalised the entire which resulted in this popular neighborhood full of tourists :)
My son is crazy about anything that has to do with police or army, so every time he see's a officer of soldier he wants to go on the picture with them :)
In Holland on Discovery there was this show "Miami Ink", a show about tattoo artist in Miami running a Tattoo shop. Of course I wanted to visit this shop to just have a look. In real the shop is somewhat smaller then on TV, but that is often the case. It was full of people though, probably because of the same reason I was going to the shop. We didn't entered it btw but it was fun to see.

Almost at every house they had a boat and some of them where out of the water, just above it. I never knew this was for bad weather, when the water is wild this way the boat would not be damaged.
When we went to the beach again the weather turned a bit, it looked if it would rain shortly..

People where putting their clothes on to prepare to leave, we stayed a little longer (because our Hotel was near by)

It does give great pictures :)

Ocean drive was surrounded by a little parc full of palm trees, just like on TV :P
There was even a Dutch herritage on Ocean Drive

It was a awesome trip which we will remember for the rest of our lives.
We hope to make a new trip again to the states, it is a awesome country to explore.
Have a great day

It's pretty crazy just how big those cruise ships are these days. I have never been on one, but I can't even begin to imagine the scale of those things.
Never been on one too, but there are huge.... I think it's awesome theat they even float hahaha
Wow these are really nice pictures and glad that the kids are enjoying this road trip together. The hotels look very much alike with the rest of the world it seems. And boy, I haven't been to the beach for a really long time.
