Jane sat on the bed, staring at her best friend’s reflection in the mirror. Dawn was all dolled up for the valentine party, she wore a baggy red tee-shirt and white pants; her blonde hair was pulled back in a ponytail style with bangs. She was the opposite of her friend, her simple lifestyle contrast Dawn's bubbling and wild side. Despite their differences, they enjoyed each other's company.

" Come on jane, I don't want to go alone," Dawn said. " You know me, am not interested in celebrating this love shit! Why celebrate something that is a myth and fallacy? " Jane exclaimed. " Oh no, just because your heart has been broken thrice doesn't mean love does not exist, ok accompany me to the party for the fun of it not because you want to celebrate valentine, " Dawn pleaded. " Ok, you win," Jane said.

The club was booming, music blasting from the loudspeakers, and just a few minutes after they got there, Dawn had already joined the crowd on the dance floor. Jane sat in the secluded area, watching the dancers. " Hello, is that seat taken? ". Jane looked up to see who’s sounding the husky baritone, he was built, tall and handsome. " No, " she said and looked away. " Am Ted Peters," he said. " Am jane" she replied reluctantly, " why is this beautiful angel sitting alone?" Ted asked, but Jane sneered and ignored the question. Ted kept on asking her questions but she didn't answer him, she thought she could piss him off with the attitude. Few minutes later, Jane gave up and began to talk to him, she found that they shared a lot of things in common, he is an engineer, 27yrs old, a novel freak and his heart has been broken many times too. They were still talking when Dawn came to drag Jane home. In the car, Dawn winked and asked "…and who was that ‘big fish?’", " No, he is just a friend" she answered.

The alarm rang, 6:00 am it says. " Oh no, another busy Monday," Jane said as she stopped the alarm, she stood up and sluggishly walked to the bathroom. Jane works as an accountant in an audit firm at Chicago. She was applying her make-up when she heard the knock on the door, " Dawn please answer the door" she screamed. She picked her bag and went to the living room, " oh my God! Who sent these?" Jane exclaimed, the fragrance of the roses teased her nose. " I thought you said he was just a friend," Dawn said sarcastically, raising her eyebrows. " And who says he’s not one? Oh! You’re wrong here girlfriend," Jane said, " Meaning? Ooh, what can you say to this?" She raised a card. " Have a nice day, ice princess...from Ted," it says. Jane smiled, " it means nothing" she replied.

A year after, their relationship blossomed. From being friends to close acquaintances to lovers, the chemistry between them was unexplainable. Though the relationship had its own share of ups and downs, they were able to overcome them. It was another Valentine day, this time, Jane was looking in the mirror. Her curves were outlined by the straight white gown; her brown curly tresses fell on her shoulders. She checked her wristwatch, ten minutes more. Two hours later, Dawn, Clara, and Tracy bust into her room. " You are still here?" Clara asked, " No, am in a hotel" jane answered and rolled her eyes, she continued " deep down within, I knew this love was too good to be true, fuck him!"

" Don't think that way, maybe it’s the traffic or a business meeting or an impromptu stuff," Dawn said, " impromptu stuff my foot!" Jane scoffed. The three girls shared a look amongst themselves and smirked. " What are you girls doing?" Jane screamed as Tracy held her down, Dawn blindfolded her and tied her hands. Her screams were muffled with the piece of cloth covering her mouth, they carried her to the car. Different thoughts were going on in jane's mind, what were they up to? Suddenly, the car came to a halt.
Jane stumbled as she was led, they stopped. She noticed they were walking away. She tried to guess where she was, aroma of different dishes was in the air, a soft love music was playing in the background, sweat of perspiration formed on her forehead; then she heard footsteps.

The person got closer, his cologne! he untied her hands. She loosens the piece of cloth tieing her hands and covering her mouth.
Her eyes widen in surprise, realizing that she was at her favorite Italian restaurant. Right before her was Ted, on his knees. In his hands was a jewelry box which contained a ring. " Will you marry me, Amanda Jane Curt? " He asked with a smile on his face, " yes yes yes" Jane answered, tears coming down freely from her eyes. As they kissed, flashes of light were everywhere, their friends were taking pictures of them.

Finally, luck shined on her. After many heartbreak experiences, Jane found the love of her life. Years ago, valentine was a normal day to Jane, she always wondered why young girls were excited about valentine, why people wear red, why do couples get reservations in a expensive hotel!! Now she understand, valentine is not an ordinary day to her. Just one night changed her notion about valentine
