HEART ATTACK
The World Health Organization states that Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are the leading cause of death globally, as it is estimated to claim about 17.9 million lives yearly.
Yes!
Heart attack is also known as a myocardial infarction which occurs when blood flow to a certain part of the heart is being blocked, usually by a blood clot. This can cause damage to the heart muscle and result in a range of symptoms like chest pain, back ache, difficulties in breathing, etc.
If you see a person with an heart-attack, he or she will probably be holding his or her left side of the chest and squeezing his or her face. It's actually a very pitiful scene to behold.
The major symptoms of a heart attack includes; chest pain or discomfort, often described as pressure, squeezing, or a fullness in the chest.
However, the symptoms of a heart attack can vary in each individual. Note that not everyone experiences the same type of symptoms, and some individuals may have mild or silent heart attacks with little or no symptoms at all.
If a person sticks to the following tips I would share on how to control the risk of having a heart-attack, I know for sure that the ratio would be put under control.
EATING HEALTHY
Eating a healthy and balanced diet can help to reduce a person’s chances of having a heart attack.
When I mean healthy food, this is what I'm talking about;
S/N | FOOD ITEMS |
---|---|
1 | fruits |
2 | vegetables |
3 | legumes |
4 | nuts |
5 | lean animal proteins |
6 | fish, etc |
Limited intake of all these processed and canned food , sweetened drinks ,refined carbohydrates, etc can also reduce the risk of having the attack.
REGULAR EXERCISING
Partaking in physical activities can also help to prevent a heart-attack. According to the American Heart Association, adults should try to get at least 70 to 150 minutes of vigorous exercise every week.
By so doing, pumping and the flow of blood from one part of the heart to another would be enhanced.
Adults who are already active can increase their activity levels to give themselves even better prevention against heart attacks.
WEIGHT CHECK
Regular weight check is vital in maintaining a moderate weight. There is a saying that too much of anything is not good, likewise too little of it. It should be moderate.
As a person, you should note how much you should weigh for your height and age. So you can know if to increase or reduce the intake of calories and also the level of exercise if necessary.
AVOID SMOKING AND EXCESSIVE INTAKE OF ALCOHOL
Even on cigarette packs , it is boldly written that "smokers are liable to die young"
If nothing else can convince you to stop smoking,
That alone should. But you still see people buying death with thier own money .
The smoke intake from tobacco products like cigarettes or vapes, and also smokes of any kind , can put a person at greater risk.
On the other hand, excessive alcohol intake dries up blood in her body and may trigger this attack .
MANAGEMENT OF OTHER HEALTH CONDITIONS
Managing other health conditions can reduce the risk of having an attack. Health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc, if not managed and controlled ,may lead to an heart-attack.
ENOUGH REST
According to the Centers for Disease and Prevention (CDC), getting the right amount of sleep can help reduce the risk of health conditions that can lead to heart attacks.
Most adults aged 18–60 need 7 or more hours of sleep per night, in order to reduce the chance of developing any health issues that can lead to this attack.
DRINKING LOTS OF WATER
The body needs water to function well.
It it like a fuel you put in you machines.
Enough of it would keep it efficient for a long time.
Drinking plenty of water will help a person avoid dehydration. Dehydration is inadequate supply of water in the system, and it can lead to a heart-attack.
However the amount of water a person should drink each day can vary based on these factors ; height, weight, age, and sex.
But at least, a person above the age of 5 should take at least 3 to 4 liters of water in a day.
I would say that, understanding the causes, symptoms, and risk factors of heart attacks is essential for its prevention and early intervention if it eventually occurs. By making healthy lifestyle choices and seeking medical attention whenever it's needed, individuals can reduce their risk of experiencing a heart attack and live thier heart-healthy lives. Remember, your heart matters, so take care of it and stay healthy.
