Crypto Alt Coin Mining with Solar and Wind Power Eco Friendly Mining 12v DC powering almost everything

in #bitcoin7 years ago

My take one with crypto currency and take 3 with steamit - my third post i think :

I decided to try my own mining instead of paying for crypto currencys but also didn't want to pay for the enormous electricity costs as well. So the idea was to use only solar and wind.
Plus, I always wanted to have a backup power source in case of no power.

Below is a picture of the power/battery station , I will post photos of the wind generator (home made with treadmill motor and Ikea bowl) and panels if someone gets interested at all.

What is the great about mining with GPU's and PC's is they all run on 12V dc which is supplied to them via a PSU converted from your power outlet which in my case is 220v ac.

The setup - everything second hand except mr. sine:

Stable 12volt currently running 2 Quad core CPUS and 2 4gb GPUS 24/7
4 used car batterys (not deep cycle, but they work just fine) so far 2 months of charge and deep discharge +/-10volts to +/-14v, had 5 at first but one ate the dust - I mean recycling point.
Voltage stabilizer
standard invertor for rest of house lighting system
12v dc cables/leads for exterior lighting other inhome lighting
2 watt meters input solar/wind
3way 12v car type cigarrete lighter output
Bunches and bunches of wiring - one of the wires is my fish pond pump - also 12volt
Some walki talkis since I am in the attic for talking with GF
Mr. Sine - Sine wave inverter/charger/ups for really crappy days (no wind and no sun)
Really Really crappy days picture 2 of stationary bicycle with mounted small permanent magnet motor (for no wind, no sun, and no power) Only calories, and you sure gotta burn lots of them but good enough for 14+volts and about 40watts, so about 4 lights on in the house. IMG_3729.JPGIMG_3730.JPG

Exactly!!
I had this discussion with some friends over a year ago. Mining sounds great, if you have a way of creating electricity for FREE.

Personally, I would like to have a mico-hydro plant or possibly a Stirling Engine that uses water to cool one side and a fresnel lens to heat the other end. I just wish I had the skills and time to work on that solution.

The process is more efficient and less heat too. Basically I got rid of the power wasted by the PSU's running the powerhungry gpus.
