Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Current Session

It's Saturday today so I gave myself a small break and decided to translate only about 900 words. Actually, I find this to be the perfect word number for me, without making my brain explode. If I didn't have a real job it would be easier to go for more in one row but I do, so....

Actually, I am thinking to stick to 900 words translations from now on as I feel I could be more productive this way and actually finish this HUGE project one day. Not sure yet, let's see how I feel about this next week :)

Here are a couple of random strings from this session (#16) to give you an idea of what I am dealing with:

A woman of noble heritage approached me. [She asked me to return any mangoes I find to her|She loved mangoes, and asked me to bring some back from my next expedition]. [She promised a worthy reward|She really wanted those mangoes]. In her words, the market produce was inferior in comparison to fresh mangoes.

I would much rather have brought good news, but alas. She did not shed a single tear as I told her what had transpired, and that we had been unsuccessful in our vow to return her lover. She shook my hand with a grim face then [departed|left|moved on].

After checking [our funds|my purse|the trek finances|the expedition funds|the monetary pool|the expedition kitty] I realised that we would not have enough [funds|money] to pay for her services.

Contribution Specifications

• Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
• Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
• Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 16# I translated 893 words, for a total of 17.958 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.
