Project Details

The Curious Expedition is a rogue-like expedition simulation set in the 19th century. It's the first game by indie developer Maschinen-Mensch. The game is available on Steam, GOG, Humble Store and at the official homepage http://curious-expedition.com. The game has been regularly updated through out the last 2 years. A list of all the updates can be found here. For information on modding the game, go here . [source and more info]

Gameplay

Here's a video showing some in-game footage from the game to get a good idea of what to expect. Maybe it will convince you to give it a try:

And here's what I believe to be the official trailer:

Why Did I Choose This Project?

Well, to be honest, I chose this project because all the other options were applications with boring names like Freecad and Jabref. I thought it would be fun (edit: less boring) to translate a game instead. And thank god... I was right!

I am sure my team members are very jealous that I get to translate strings like "Let's eat", "Giant tortoise", "I feel happy and sad", and "Oh my god" while they get to translate stuff like "resolving duplicate keys", "Port Design", "Constraining modifier key" and "Corrugated elements"... LOL!

Too bad for them, now they have to live with the choices they have made....MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Current Session

It's Sunday today and I decided to take a small "break", so instead of translating the usual 1200 + words I only went for approximately 900. Having a full time job and posting daily on steemit takes its toll so doing those extra 300 words felt too gruesome. :D

Here are a couple of random strings from this session (#15) to give you an even better idea of what I am dealing with:

[As I observed the tribe I noticed one woman was somewhat out of place. She was the wife I had been tasked to escort back to London.|As we approached the village we were immediately approached by a native. She introduced herself as $name, and it transpired that she was the wife we were asked to escort back to London.] Without further ado she happily joined our trek and began to show us around the village.

[We traipsed into the settlement|We entered the strange encampment|Today we reached the camp] of a peculiar race of large lizard people.

The egg we had found started to [tip|tilt|sway|rock] from side to side and cracks began to appear. Something inside [strived to escape|wanted out|desired freedom], and after a few minutes of trying, it finally succeeded. A [new-born|baby|little] raptor lay on the ground before us.

A man in a British officer's uniform welcomed us to his village. [This must be the deserter we had been searching for|Immediately I realised this was the deserter we had been asked to find]. He introduced himself as Lt. Konrad. [The village had a strangely oppressive undercurrent|The natives seemed nervous around this man|Lt. Konrad had an air of strict dictatorship about him|I sensed that the villagers did not favour this rogue officer|The way he spoke to the natives suggested he ruled with an iron fist].

Tough, I know!

Contribution Specifications

  • Translation Overview: This is a really large project, approximately 80.000 words and obviously it's gonna take me a while to finish. In each part I plan to translate anywhere from 700 to 1200 words. For the most part, the translation is very easy as there are few, if any, technical terms.
  • Languages: The project is being translated from English to Greek.
  • Word Count: According to Crowdin, for Part 15# I translated 920 words, for a total of 17.065 translated words. Since most of the strings translated were part of the in-game dialogues there were only a handful (1, maybe 2%) that were left in the original language, e.g. screenshot.

First I'd like to thank our very helpful and patient LMs, @dimitrisp and @ruth-girl for being awesome.

A shout-out goes of course to the other brilliant members of the Greek team: @katerinaramm, @lordneroo and of course the one and only @trumpman. A special shoutout of course goes to @trumpman2, I would be nothing without his constant support and guidance!

And last but not least, a big thank you goes to DaVinci and Utopian for keeping this project alive, running and developing!

Thank you for another great contribution to the Davinci-Utopian translation project @trumpman!
This was the 15th contribution on the “Curious Expedition” project and your 18th contribution to the translation category overall.

You are currently working on the Curious Expedition, a game that, even though it may not contain difficult terms and vocabulary, is one of the biggest projects a member of our team has ever tried to work on (almost 80,000 words). Good luck on this difficult task!
When you started translating, a handful of strings were already submitted (but not approved or voted) by another translator irrelevant to the Davinci-Utopian project. You have gone through them and checked them for any corrections that needed to be made, you have even fixed a few of them that were problematic.

Apart from a few minor issues (a missing space for instance), there was nothing wrong with your translation. Your translations are getting better and better each time, I like how you try and keep the feeling in Greek.

I have nothing else to add, Thank you for being part of our team ;)
