Silkie Chicken.

I enjoyed watching this little girl playing with this white Silkie chicken. She’d been trying to cautiously pick it up for ages and when at last she held it in her arms the sheer delight on her face was a joy to witness.

Silkie chickens have been given their name due to their feathers which are fluffy and have the texture of silk and satin. Their unusual characteristics feature black skin and bones, blue earlobes, and five toes on each foot. (Most chickens have only four.) They have a calm manner and a friendly temperament. In fact, they are considered to be the most docile of poultry.

The hens become very broody and look after their young very well but lay only about three eggs per week. Silkie chickens make great pets for children especially as they can tolerate a bit of rough handling. Kids of all kinds are attracted to them apparently, going by the interest the little black goat was giving this beautiful white Silkie.
