The Wonderful Food, That's Growing In My Garden'!

I like my gardens wild, letting my food grow alongside my medicinal herbs. Herbs that I have left to grow naturally. I love this time of the year, as the clevers and chickweed are in abundance, along with lots of Borage. Borage is a plant which we all need to be consuming right now, as it helps to bring us courage and strength. If you look close enough at that picture above, you will see some chickweed and clevers growing happily amongst the borage.

My chard has bounced back after some recent rainfall and with this spot getting more sun, now that Spring is fully underway. It was looking quite sad for a while in the winter, as it was way too shady. But with a lot of love and care it survived.

I planted some spinach out last week and it too, is looking very happy. This is all in the small garden in front of my truck. One that I created last summer, as my veggie needs grew.

Further away from my truck, is the garden with the sunniest spot and I have already been harvesting some broccoli from there the last few days, but I can see some more heads are appearing so I look forward to eating them. We mostly eat them raw, as they taste divine, just the way they are.

I can't wait for my cabbage to be ready, I am eating so much sauerkraut right now and really want to make using cabbage from my garden. I have been able to get some from friends, but it is not the same as tasting it from your own garden. I also do love stir fried cabbage as well. I think I should have planted a lot more lol.

There are a few kale plants growing in this garden as well, I have kale in all three of my gardens as I look Kale in my juices and smoothies and I also love to make kale chips too.

Got some broccoli going to seed here, I always like to leave one or two plants so that I can collect the seeds for my next planting. That's some kale also going to flower right behind it.

Some lovely parsley is also planted in this garden. Amongst the brassicas and calendula. I have mulched this garden mostly with leaves and straw. My neighbor has a horse right now and offered me a bale of straw that her horse did not like. I was happy to put it to good use.

My companion in the garden today was Mismash the cat, she is our youngest feline friend and I love here markings. She is super playful and loves to follow me around.

A little overview of my small sunny garden. I love to walk by here and see the lush green of the brassicas and the bright orange of the calendula. It has brighten up many of a day for me.

Time to head to my other garden, but not before a stop off at the two Avocado tree's. They have just began to flower. But as the land is now for sale, I am not sure if I will get to enjoy the fruits from this next harvest, later in the year.

The almonds have also started to appear on the trees, I do love when the Almond blossom is out, but there is nothing quite as satisfying as seeing the trees full of new green nuts. Got about 6 months till they are ready to be harvest and this will be my last.

IMG_1670.JPG

Still got some oranges on the trees, which is great. Nothing like an freshly picked orange first thing in the morning, to wake you up the right way. A breakfast full of vitality!

And now my final garden which has some beetroot. I love to harvest the leaves as much as the root. I have a spiralizer and raw beetroot is my favourite. I think I will have to have some for lunch tomorrow, yum.

IMG_1654.JPG

I have mint planted in all my gardens as it helps to keep some bugs away from my greens. But I am happy to let them eat a few. I will be very worried the day I see no bugs or eaten veg in my garden.

IMG_1673.JPG

My strawberries are also bouncing back after the recent rain ad I have harvest a few already. I have to be quick cos my girls are always on the lookout for strawberries.

IMG_1676.JPG

Some more Kale, this one is also beginning to flower, but I will continue to harvest the leaves. I can never have too much kale. I am definitely growing it in abundance!

IMG_1677.JPG

The wonderful mullein, the leaves are great for coughs and for lung problems. Perfect to have in a tea or to tincture. This plant is young, after the second year it will flower and those flowers are great for treating ear infections, just infuse them in oil.

IMG_1678.JPG

I have lots of spring onions growing as well, in amongst lots of other native plants. Including plantain and chickweed. I love to make pakora's with the onion stems or to just add them to salad. Another vegetable, you can never have too much of.

IMG_1687.JPG

I wanted to include a picture of the beautiful orange blossom, I love the smell of neroli and it just fills the land right now. It reminds me of the birth of my youngest as she was born in Spring and I have such wonderful memories of sitting with the orange trees and soaking up that beautiful scent.

IMG_1692.JPG

There are 4 lemon tree's on the land and they too are in blossom. I feel so grateful to have fresh lemons almost everyday. I love making lemon and kiwi smoothies at the moment, blending the whole lemon, gives me a wonderful vit C boost.

IMG_1686.JPG

Can you spot the baby figs? Sorry for the blurry photo, but I had to include them. There are 5 fig trees on the land and this is the first year that this tree has produced fruit. It is right next to my outdoor sink and I was super excited to see these beautiful fruits appear.

I feel so blessed to live on this land, to have an abundance of fruit and nut trees and be able to grow some of my own vegetables. I am manifesting another wonderful place that I can call home. But I sure will miss living here!
