Freedom

The screams bounce off the wall,
in unison with the fears that weight us down,
cutting like glass they fall as fragments
upon the shoulders of those, that carried us forth

How time now creates this illusion,
of disconnect
waiting,
for every little thought
to drop
into the ocean
that awaits
that soothes us with it's gentle swell,
swept up into the belly of the beast.
deluded in our thoughts
that all is well.

Cradled in arms
that created our discontent
swung gently so that we miss the turning of the tide.

Arms outstretched,
we dip our hands in
convinced that this is where we belong
but we are just tasting,
we ride these crescents
convincing ourselves that they are real
but we have cut ourselves off
denying ourselves the pleasure to feel.

Freedom can not be achieved
upon the backs of others
it cannot be bought
or taught

Yet it flows like gold from our minds
opening us up,
to a surge
that allows us to create
to be wild,
to be true.

It flows when we step into our own power
when we no longer walk blind.

I scream,
for recognition,
I scream
to release the pain

My freedom comes when I embrace who I am.

This is my entry into the InkWell Poetry Challenge, which you can find details about here. I have always just written free form poetry, at least that is what I think it is, I have never followed any form, I just let the words flow out of me. Poetry has always been a way for me to express who I am and what I am feeling. It has helped me carve my way in this life, helping me navigate the stormy seas that I have sailed. I would love any feedback and I am always looking to grow as a writer.

In this piece, I really wanted to capture the emotions that so many of us feel at the moment, what with so many of us now being confined to our homes, whilst also questioning those who are calling the shots. That no matter what they impose, our freedom is what we hold within and it can not be taken from us.

I have just created a Patreon account so if anyone wishes to support me, please do, I will be sharing poetry and words of empowerment.

I'm focused on the current disabling of reason among most of the population of planet earth, so maybe I am superimposing my obsession onto this, but it sure seems to me you are addressing our entrapment, our hypnotic state induced, by the medical/war/chemicals machine that has convinced most of us that WE are the toxins, we can not trust our bodies nor the bodies of even our closest friends. Our clothing is poison, our surfaces, our hands, our breath. We must believe the pronouncements of entities that have lied to us over and over again as if we have no choice. We do have a choice. We can reject those pronouncements and believe in our selves.

If we love ourselves, we will not fear others. That will not make sense.

Anyway, that's what this poem has said to me.

thank you @owasco, the poem is really about how trapped some of us feel by current events, how we believe our freedom has been taken from us. But we hold our true freedom in the way that we think, as that is what effects us most in life, so you did get close indeed, but I believe when we post our poetry we give it to others to interpret xxxx

My fright is not about the illness (which I call "the bad cold that's going around" just to aggravate as many people as I can to interact with me), but rather that people seem mostly satisfied that our freedom has been taken from us, and revile me for saying "yo people there is never a good enough reason to take our freedom from us!"

I agree, I am not fearful about the virus as well, it has been blown right out of proportion and yes people have very easily accepted the restrictions because of the fear that has accompanied it. I am focusing on what I can do, with what I have at the moment and trying to stay as positive as I can, these are strange times xx
