CONTEST MACROPHOTOGRAPHY PART III / "Observing the Earth Via Flies Eyes: A Miracle of Complex Seeing."
Welcome to our "WORLD OF XPILAR" community.
Fly optics are a wonder of natural architecture, showing amazing modifications for their extraordinary existence. The ommatidia, or millions of microscopic surfaces that make up unique complex vision, each function effectively a separate vision component. Fly can see entire environment via the hexagonal construction. Flies having great ability to sense motion as well as may precisely distinguish moving things because of an overabundance of ommatidia, which helps them escape danger and find food.
Their vision is extremely reactive to UV rays, which helps them find flowers and choose mates. The variety and intricacy of fly visual is further demonstrated through certain fly genera' specific strategies for low-light environments such as light that is polarized sensing.
