A Smile is All it Takes

Sometimes to save a life, a smile is all it takes.

I was once told of a man who had leapt from a bridge, plummeting to his death. On the spot where he had jumped he left a note,

"If one single stranger smiles at me today, I will not take my life."

There is no doubt that people had passed this man, travelling to the destination of his demise, but unfortunately none had taken even a split second to even so much as glance in his direction.

One smile.

One smile is all it took.

We spend our lives rushing around, going from one destination to another. On our way we pass strangers, without even giving a single thought to what they might be going through. As humans we are quick to judge, jump to conclusions about others based on their appearances, but what if we were to just show a simple act of kindness to someone? Would that bring a shimmer of light into their lives so full of hatred and darkness?
Would a simple gesture show them that there is still a sliver of humanity left in the world?
