Close up on a broadclub cuttlefish eye!

I was fascinated the first time I saw a cuttlefish while diving. They have superb camouflage and are such bizarre creatures. They allow you get pretty close too which is great for photography like this. I always got the impression there is alot of intelligence behind those weird alien eyes. I took this image diving in Padangbai in Bali, the scientific name of this species is Sepia latimanus.

They have an unusual hunting strategy where they will catch shrimps and small fish by mesmerise them with moving lines of colour along their skin. The babies will also mimic leaves in the water to avoid detection and the adults have complex mating rituals which involve dramatic colour changes. Something I have not yet had the pleasure to witness.
