What's The Most Valuable Currency? Gold? Bitcoin? No. It's Something Else.

in #philosophy7 years ago (edited)

Not long ago, I made an abysmal attempt at writing an introductory post, and I noticed myself using the word "spend" an awful lot. It was not money that I was referring to spending, however. No. It was time.

It inspired a train of thought, and I found myself wondering if the reason we use the word "spend" in relation to time is because time is in fact a currency, just like money or gold.

It certainly makes sense. Typically with a currency, you give some of it away and in return you receive something of value to you. If I spend time watching a movie, I will be paid in entertainment. If I spend time studying, I will be paid in understanding. The difference being, you have a finite amount of time on this Earth, where as one could potentially acquire more gold or money than they could ever know what to do with.

It's clear, when you look at things like this, that time is by far the most valuable of all currencies we spend on a daily basis, and this realisation has to make one look at the 9-5 life in an entirely new perspective.

How is it that we are forced to trade our most valuable currency- time, for another, far less (if at all) valuable one- money? That doesn't sound like a fair deal at all.

This little thought has made me realise how great Steemit could be for us as a people. I am so accustomed to spending my time working, so that others might benefit from my sweat, that I realise the magnitude of the opportunity ahead of me.

Spending money is great, but we all know that it is far more fruitful to invest that money instead. Steemit has now given us the chance to invest our time-- not spend it. The hours I intend to put into this platform will benefit me, and in the future, if my hard work pays off, I will be rewarded with more free time, just as one would expect as a return on an investment of time.

I for one am going to start investing far more of my time than the usual spending of it. And I would suggest that we all should. Thanks, Steemit for providing us with the means to do just that.

I know this was short. I intend to share as many of my thoughts as possible on here, so feel free to give me a follow if you are curious about what else goes on upstairs. Thanks for reading-
