Dance to inspire not to impress

(00:42 : That's how i always lose my lighter !)
Hip Hop was born in the 70’s in the United States. More precisely from the Bronx.
Hip Hop was about 4 : B-Boying (dance), Graffing, Doing (Dj) and the Beatboxing.
When we talk about hip hop dances we can think about different styles such as Breaking (B-Boying), Popping, Locking, Top Rock and now LA Style.
Usually people forget it but Breaking was at the origin of the hip hop dances. I feel like people are forgetting about the roots of the B-boying. Like we have big brands who will take the dance and commercialize it, forgetting that Bboying is from the street. And also it’s a little bit sad that Bboy can’t find their places in the society, because Breakdancers have hard time finding how to adapt to what the society asks from them (as I told you it’s a street dance, we know how to speak street life but not market life).

I feel like the work that a breakdancer has to put into dancing is heavier than for others dances, not that others dances are easier or not technical, but physically it’s harder for us breakdancer. You have to be into the rhythm, you can get hurt during practice, you have to have stamina, you have to be creative…Lots of works…but don’t worry you can breakdance too! It’s about Practice, practice, practice oh and Practice!

I started dancing at the age of 13. I met the love of my life in 2003, it was a VHS (you know that tape you put into a machine and magically you will be able to watch it on your television). The movie is called « le défi » (the call-out), a movie that was released in 2002. It’s about a love story between two dancers. Actually one of the dancer’s mother won’t let his child breath and would be overly-protective with him, he had to break from this but things don’t go well (it’s a movie!)..and then he would…HAHAHA no I won’t spoil the story for you guys check it!

To tell you the truth I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the movements and I fell in love with it.(Cringy)(Emotional)(Nostalgic)

About you:

I know lots of people who are like « it’s too hard », « I cant’ never learn how to dance », « I’m not the dance-type ».
NO YOU CAN!

Don’t start with movements, start with the rhythm. It’s a binary rhythm.
Its goes like this: 1-2 , 3-4 , 5-6 , 7-8 and again 1-2 , 3-4 , 5-6 , 7-8 etc.
Start to listen to the boom-clap, boom-clap. Put your earphones in, yes like right now …and listen to this 2 instruments.
Everybody can move a little bit to the rhythm … I’m pretty sure you are already moving to the rhythm without even knowing it. As long as you dance on the rhythm that makes you a dancer already..Don’t doubt about it!
A friend told me this: « You can hear the music but you can’t see it, so the dance is about showing you the music, to make it visible ».

See ya again for the movements posts it will come soon…but for now practice listening to the rhythm.

Oh yeah…If you have any questions about rhythm or hip hop dances you know where is the comment section, hit it!

Aw and don’t forget « Together we are going forth »
