HOT POT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION | The Roving Vlogger #101

in #dtube8 years ago (edited)

Japanese shabu-shabu (which translates to swish-swish) is similar to Chinese hot pot. Instead of a communal bowl in the middle of the table, each person has their own soup bowl. Thinly sliced meat and vegetables are swished around in the broth until cooked through.

It was Ralph's birthday celebration, and we somehow ended up getting the all-you-can-eat at Swish-Swish for $30 a person at the table. (Of course, we would be covering his cost as a present.)

Let me tell you, all-you-can-eat is NEVER worth it when you're a vegetarian with a small stomach. The amount of food I ordered was the equivalent of $14 on the regular menu. And it's even less worth it when you have to cook the meal yourself. I have the same feelings about Korean BBQ (I'm sorry, friends!)

But enough of the stingy griping! The point of hot pot is a slow meal shared with friends. It was an EXTREMELY popular birthday celebration back when I was in college, but the advantage now is that this time I didn't have to share out of a pot full of coagulated blood and pork (nothing wrong with eating those, but I don't prefer them).

The place is so popular, you can only have your table for an hour and a half so all too soon it was time to go. I will likely never go back, but we had fun!

For the rest of Ralph's birthday, we started watching a new anime, Yuri on Ice, together. I started enjoying it from its frist minutes! Probably because it's about male figure skaters, but the animation is also gorgeous!

Thanks for stopping by! Hope we weren't too crazy at the beginning of this video haha.

Thank you! It was fun to make it.

yes friends please help in my blog is my friend yes i need your help my friends

Hahahahahahah, funny though. When one begin to think of how he can manage funds preparing a meal for lesser amount, having forgotten the special threat he/she's going to receive at the restaurant, plus the environmental ambience you enjoy, all that is put together in the prize you pay. But all the same, what a great dish is always served at swish swish. Lol

Agreed! And we didn't have to do the dishes! I love experiencing new restaurants, but next time I will probably pick one that prepares my food for me and doesn't have a time limit!

I've never had hotpot but I'd really like to try it! Does everything get eaten, or is there always stuff leftover?

We ate everything on our table except for a little bit of the broth, but I don't think that's the norm if you're trying to maximize the all-you-can-eat aspect. That was one of my thoughts when we were deciding whether to order a different side dish - I really don't like wasting!

Haha.. indeed u are right, it's NEVER worth it when u have a small stomach, even more when u are a vegetarian! However, shabu-shabu or what we have here in Malaysia is steamboat.. it's something we really love to do.
