in #steemiteducation7 years ago

In the world of agriculture, farmers and agriculturists are faced with many problems and obstacles, but one of the most common dilemmas they face is the infestation of caterpillars. These caterpillars appear with vengeance and have the ability to eat away at a once healthy crop in just a matter of a few days.
These little critters feast on the leaves and stems of plants and as small as they are, they have very healthy appetites! In this post, I would like to share a natural remedy with you, this remedy has proven to eradicate the pests quickly, without using toxic ingredients.
This caterpillar deterrent is made from natural raw materials and is very easy to make.
You will need:

  • Wet tobacco

  • Leaf Sentang (seuntang aceh leanguage)

  • Soursop leaf

  • Laundry soap

These four basic ingredients are what is needed to make your concoction. Let me explain further:
Wet tobacco
Usually tobacco is associated with cigarettes, but it is important to know that in tobacco contains proteins that can be utilized for many other things.
Please see the source below for more information.
From this source it can be seen that the content of tobacco can defeat the infestation of caterpillars.
Leaf Sentang
In the past, this leaf has had no indications that it can help farmers in overcome the caterpillars invading leaves, but in recent years, the farmers in ACEH have discovered that the leaves do in fact have potential.
After observing the Sentang leaves, it was established that caterpillars do not fing this leaf appetising and do not feast on it. This is why the Setang leaf has become an ingredient in making this natural pesticide.
Soursop leaf
This leaf has been used to treat ailments for many years and has many health benefits. It includes ingredients like:

  1. Chlorophyll

  2. Protein

  3. Enzymes

  4. Nucleic acid

All of these elements are useful when it comes to eradicating pests, like caterpillars.
Laundry Soap
Laundry soap can be used as a cleanser, but it’s soapiness also makes the leaves taste horrid to the caterpillars.

How to mix the four ingredients:

First you need to wash the leaves and tobacco thoroughly. You can use a sieve for this. Add the other ingredients and some water to match the quantity of the rest of the ingredients. Blend or grind to create a thickened liquid.
Let your mixture ferment for at least four days. After this, the liquid is ready to be sprayed on to the leaves.

Conclusion

It can be concluded that there are alternatives to treating pests other than always resorting to toxic substances. This is also a cost-effective way of ridding pests and can be helpful to farmers around the world.
