Granville Island Public Market

in #travel5 years ago (edited)

Hi Guys!

At the beginning of July, we went to Vancouver and stayed in Granville Island.

When I said Granville Island, I was not really implying the fancy super expensive million dollar homes neighborhood tho :P Our hotel was close to many amenities (plus point), but by all means, far from the fanciness of the million dollar homes neighborhood, in fact the area where our hotel was located, was super dirty. In all honesty, this was the first time I saw dirty Canada hahahha (and I lived in Montreal! So that should say something). What is up with that, Vancouver???? 0.o

Our hotel was super expensive, most likely since it is surrounded by restaurants, stores, and whatnot, but yeah, as soon as you step outside the hotel, welcome to dirtiness. Which was sad....because our hotel was SUPER expensive (yeah it needs to be repeated), like holy moly, almost half the price of our California vacation! Yet the neighborhood was....wow....smelly, dirty, welcome to the big city. It was a shocker, TBH.

Anyhoo....

When we checked the local newspaper, we learned about Public Market which is located not too, too far, by foot, from our hotel. So off we went to check it out and it was a very nice market, that once we arrived, I forgot all the complaints of how the little legs were tired - yes from my youngest lol I had to carry him halfway - le sigh

When we went inside the market, just like on cue, my husband and I looked at each other and in unity we said "Nagy Vásárcsarnok". Yep. The Public Market is very much like Grand Central Hall, in Budapest, Hungary. An indoor market.

From fresh produce, dairy, deli, food stalls, bakeries, arts and crafts, you can find inside the Public Market. So many things to see, so many goodies. Just wonderful.

Prices though, are just like any other places of "farmer's" market, some can be so steep, but hey, they are fresh and you want/need them. So there you go ;-)

We came early and able to check out most of the vendors. Later in the day the market became so crowded with customers, especially on lunch time. It was hard to move here and there, or get a seating should you order something to eat/drink.

Boys tried pretzels and later ice cream, from two different vendors. For the pretzels, the line was not bad at all as it was not even lunch time yet, but for the ice cream, it was a bit cray cray, as it was already lunch time. But what won't you do for your little ones, right, even when the line was very long lol

Public Market is located by the water, and there are seating available outside, altho not plenty. It's pretty nice to enjoy your pirogi or hot dogs outside when the weather is nice. The view, the sky, the wind can be truly enjoyable for couples or families, or even when you are by yourself.

The kids truly enjoyed the market, that my oldest said we should just move to Vancouver, lol. If only we could move this kind of market to where we live hahaha Would be nice to have more varieties of food places, stores, entertainments, and whatnot. Our town is all about pizza parlors.....and burgers. And most of the fresh produce are not locally grown even the ones at our small farmer's market, fruits are from far away land, and the market is all about baked goods and crafts. So yeah, after Public Market, of course these kiddies all wanted to move to Vancouver. More to see and shop til parents drop. lol.

What about where you reside. Do you also have a pretty big indoor market with tons of varieties of goodies? How often do you shop there? - you know, support local, but sometime we just cannot afford that. Is it the same at your farmer's market?

Thanks for looking!

Oh! Canada. :) sounds lovely!

I LOVE Granville Island!!!!

And probably have my post about it pinned right next to yours on the Steemit Word Map! 😂

Seattle has Pike Place Market, which is similar but SO MUCH worse for crowds! We stop in at Granville at least once a year and always wish I could bring all of that luscious food back across the border. Or I wish I could just live in one of those $$$$$ Vancouver town homes and buy market food every darn day!

I didn’t realize you are in Montreal. For some reason I had thought far north BC.

Glad you had fun at the market. Sorry your hotel was in a questionable location.

🇨🇦

My gosh those houses are crazy. A townhome for 2 mills. Yikes! I like my privacy 🤣

I am in far north BC. I am on Alaska Highway. And I typed LIVED in Montreal 😜

We always talk on visiting Seatle. Always make plans but still havent gotten to it yet.

So you are not that far from me, hey. Cool! Let's meet up sometimes, #teamaustralia

Ahhh the old “lived” vs. “live”. I am not paying attention!

Seattle is fine. I think I like Vancouver more. It’s got better attractions than we do. 😄

Team Australia meet up! 😍 🇦🇺

We just got tickets to go back for a visit later this year. Stopping in Hawaii to break up that LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG flight!

🏝 🍹 🌺

Aaaah so lucky you! Do you fly home often? I had family reunion in Vancouver, recently. My Aussie mum flew in from Australia, my sister and her family flew in from Hawaii. Imma blog about it in near future. Sooo many goodies the kids got. Man, I miss Australia like big time.

Mum, sis and I were talking how far I live, if only I was in Australia or they were in Canada. Would be nice lol

They will be visiting here again in a couple of years and this time gonna go to Alaska Highway then we will rent RV and drive up to Alaska.

Did you hear an Aussie guy was murdered with her American GF up here, on Alaska Highway? That is close to where I live. So sad.

Seattle is my home. My husband is from Canberra. He goes back more than I do, but I try to go back every 2 or 3 years. Once it ended up being FIVE years though! (Terrible daughter-in-law.)

It’s too far! I feel sad for my hubs because his people rarely visit. Though one of his cousins just got hired by Amazon and moved here from Perth with his family two weeks ago! Finally some family close by for my husband.

I miss tons about Australia. So many beautiful places, delicious Turkish and Lebanese food, the wombats, battered savs! 🤣😂🤣

That is great you fam came out. I didn’t here about the couple getting murdered!!! Horrible!

aaah I see!

am a terrible adopted daughter!

I fly home to Indonesia every 2-3 years (one time was 5 years lol). I know Indonesia is close to Australia, but the ticket price is not light as well. 4 tickets from Canada to Indonesia is already making us bankrupt each time, cannot add Australia as well. Then if want to fly to Australia only, from Canada, that would make my birth parents sad if we dont stop by Indonesia. Am I making sense? So whenever we fly home to Indonesia, thats it, just Indonesia. The last time I flew home to OZ was in 2001! AGES ago. Altho my OZ parents visited us in 2005. Fast forward to last month, that was the first time we saw each other again after 2005. Wow lol

Thats good now your hubby has family from back home there :D

Oh yes!!! My first Lebanese wraps was in Australia. Yummo big time hahaha OMG, we can be good friends it seems, dfinney! hahahah
