The City of Angels - Eye Opening Views, Bangkok - Thailand

If you are spending a few days in 'The City of Angels' and are looking for a location with breathtaking views of the city, then the Baiyoke Tower II could be the place for you! The cloud piercing structure was previously the tallest building in Bangkok at 309 metres tall, but had its crown snatched away by the recently finished MahaNakhon building, which stands just above at 314 metres tall. The building is located in the Ratchathewi district and can easily be reached by taxi, or the nearest BTS - Skytrain stop would be Ratchathewi, but you would need to take a taxi or motorbike, as it is a little distance away from the station.

The skyscraper comprises of a total 88 floors and a large section of the building is the Baiyoke Sky hotel. Most people go to experience the view from the beautiful 360 degree sky-deck on the 84th floor. The deck rotates allowing you to happily gaze out across the city with a full 360 degree view, don't worry the platform moves quite slowly allowing you to take those prize snaps! To gain entry you can eat dinner at one of the various buffets they have on the lower floors, which are a treat within themselves, I would recommend the international buffet, which cost around 700 baht. After paying for the buffet you will be granted free entry to the rotating sky deck. Ideally it is best to arrive before sunset, allowing those beautiful sunset shots and then more footage at dark, capturing the bright glow of the city. Unfortunately we arrived late, so no sunset shots this time, but we did get plenty at night.

A few photos as night was falling, these were taken from the restaurant, before ascending to the sky deck, so there might be a few reflections from the glass.

The next set of photos were taken from the sky-deck itself, we only had our phones with us, so we made best of what we had.

Those orange roads you can see in the photos are elevated highways, which are toll-roads, these toll roads can save you from sitting in hours worth of traffic jams and really are a godsend! If you are getting in a taxi at peak-hours between 7 - 9 a.m. or 5 - 8 p.m. and the taxi asks if you want to use the highway, except his suggestion, because it could save you hours of your time. There is nothing worse than sitting and gazing at the metre going up and up, while you sit trapped in gridlock traffic. The tolls are usually between 20-50 baht and really are worth it!

If you like beautiful cityscapes and enjoy taking photos then I would recommend visiting Baiyoke Tower II. Furthermore if you are missing western food, then you will love the international buffet!
