The Inspiration For This

This is another landscape experiment continuing on the beach/seaside theme created in Corel Painter 18.

I wanted to go for more of an evening or sunset look, although in some respects it does also look like a nighttime scene.

I tried to add more complexity here by using mixed media.

The distant water and sand were painted using the bristle oils brush.

For the water effects I mainly used the wet sponge brush with some additional use of chalks and a palette knife. The sun (or moon depending on how you interpret it) was a combination of chalk and sponge.

I hope you like it. Make sure to open it in a new tab (right click the image) to see it properly.

Also (as I usually say) feel free to use it in your own posts if you can find a use for it.

I like the abstractness of this.

Just enough of a nudge that suggests reality, but not the jaggy details that distract from the hues and contrasts.

Corel should get more credit for their brush simulations, they really aren't paralleled by anything else.

Thanks for sharing this.

Thank you. You are absolutely right there simulation of real brushes are outstanding.

Hi @thecryptofiend I've published a post about you, check it out if you can, thanks.

Cool! You really see a beach with the sun in this one. Although the sun in this one is making it easier to imagine something for yourself. The setting is very clear on this one and I think everyone knows where they are in this one.

What I think is best from this one are the waves. Especially on the right side. Well done!

You know what would be a challenge in doing such an artwork in Abstract.
Speed . It's possible but would be a great challenge I think to visualise and there are many concepts on how it can be possible as well :D

Just spitballing here haha

Wow! another picture! I like the wave and tiny sprays of water blown by the wind. The sunset is a bit sad as it is surrounded by creeping dark clouds. When the sky is like this by the River, we normally heavy rain fall at night and probably a thunder storm as well. Thanks for your nice paintings.

Thanks for your great comment!

@thecryptofiend hmmm you make me more and more curious how it is to paint digital. Definitley a future project for me.

What exactley do you mean with mixed media in the digital way?

Do you know the book "Color and Light" by James Gurney? It is highley recommendable. I bet you would enjoy it. It is not like the other painting books. Its so special and worth every cent.

Well in digital painting you have different types of paint like oil and acrylic as well as other types of media. I haven't seen that book but will check it out.

Do it, there are not many books about painting, which are worth buying. But this is definitley one of the Must-haves like "Alla prima - Everything I know about painting" from Richard Schmid.

I don't get anything for advertising those books btw :-D I just love them ;-)

Cool I will get it now.

Edit : Damn just checked there are no new editions and the used versions are between £220 and 3500! I hope they bring out a new edition.

This ones my favorite from your series of minimalistic paintings. The reflection cast from the sun is very distinct and the colors scheme is great too.

Thank you so much:)

Ooh, I think this one is my favorite so far - I really love the speckles of water droplets from the wave and the timeless feeling the piece evokes. Very interesting mixture of media here.

This is absolutely beautiful @thecryptofiend.
Despite the fact the sun is up and the beach is still a light colour indicating it's still the evening time; I feel like it's nighttime as I run gleefully up and down the idyllic shore. Darkness surrounds me but it adds a sense of mystery to this magical place.
If I do make a post about the beach I'll definitely use some of your work! (obviously giving you credit) haha :)

Thanks that would be great!

I love the mood of this painting - you isolated on waves lapping the shore, but I have the sense of breakers and the spume rising into the air.

The time was undefined, but I think night with the moon just rising, leaving its track far out in the bay.

Actually, I'm reminded of Matthew Arnold's poem, Dover Beach :

sweet is the night-air!
Only, from the long line of spray
Where the sea meets the moon-blanched land,
Listen! you hear the grating roar
Of pebbles which the waves draw back, and fling,
At their return, up the high strand,
Begin, and cease, and then again begin,
With tremulous cadence slow, and bring
The eternal note of sadness in.

The charcoal tones add a note of solemnity. Very nicely done.

Wow that is beautiful. Thanks for sharing!

Have you made using pen tablet? If yes , which pen tablet you are using. The Final result is very beautiful.

Yes I use a Wacom Intuos.

Oh great,I also have for making digital painings. Have you seen some of my photoshop and 3ds max work?
