Is 'Best Offer' successful?

I decided to try to sell some of my 'sticky stock' by adding 'Best Offer' to some of my older listings. It seemed like a good idea to clear some space and get some extra sales rolling in.

Did it work though? Was it worth the effort? Did I get any silly offers?

Well, I certainly got a lot of offers. It was interesting to see just how many offers I was getting. So just on a customer interaction basis, it worked well.

What about those low offers? Did they annoy me? Well, I know many resellers who set Ebay to reject offers below a certain level, so that they avoid getting low offers all the time. However, I chose to see every offer that came in. Most were reasonable, with only a few that were silly. Even so, I suppose it is all interaction which could encourage the algorithm to promote my listings. Who knows the depth of intricacies of Ebay?!?

The Result!

Looking back at the week, I'd say about 33% of sales came through a best offer. Although lower than full asking price, the price I got was satisfactory to both me and the customer, so a win-win situation.

I think I'll keep using best offer for a while yet. It has turned out to be a successful method of getting more sales. When all my sticky stock has gone, I'll rethink my strategy again. Until then, Best Offer is going to be a regular feature in my shop.
