Cats and Blinking in Confidence I

Vision is very important to cats and understanding the various mechanisms around the eye is very important. Blinking is one such function that a cat also retains as it attempts to use tears to remove debris or other forms of dirt from its eyes. What may not be obvious however, is that there are in fact different forms of blinking that have different purposes in the body.

Cleansing the eyes is associated with rapid or quick blinks that will carry out the cleaning function swiftly. Slower blinking is an entirely different interpretation that is often coupled with a visual gaze from the cat that might even be fixated on an owner. If a cat is experiencing a state of relaxation without any worry, this will be combined with a relaxed posture as they look around, blinking slowly at a leisurely pace.
