For families with younger children there remains a great risk to allowing a cat to enter the sleeping space. For infants and babies it is not recommended for a number of reasons including hygiene and risk of suffocation if a cat accidentally sits on a child. Exposing sleeping spaces should only be considered when a child has matured and is able to manage their own sleeping space with a cat sans supervision.

Understanding allergy levels in children is also important. Allowing cats to enter the sleeping space can introduce unwanted behaviour long term down the line.
