The British shorthair cat is the famous national cat of the British empire. As mentioned in other posts, this type of cat emerged as a result of selective breeding that has reached a state in which high quality British shorthair cats are being produced in high volume. This cat has been recognised for a great number of years and is thought to have originated from cats that arrived onto the British Islands from Rome. This dates back many years ago and the pedigree of the British shorthair was one of the first to be recognised. To this very day, the British shorthair remains as one of the most bred cats in the world. Consistency is seen across the gene pool but a great colour and pattern variation has been maintained. This means that prospective owners will be spoilt for choice when looking for the catalogue of British Shorthair cats. Some of the more characteristic parts of the cat will relate to its rounded head and small ears.

Over the years, appreciation for the British Shorthair has steadily grown and it was soon recognised that the British White Shorthair cat was a luxury choice for owners wishing to care for the very best specimens. The British White is regarded as perfection in the shorthair world and they become very rare as time has progressed. They are another example of having exemplary genes and have been one of the earliest cats to be used in selective breeding programmes.

The white cat has a diverse eye colour choice and there are three main results that will manifest over time, these include blue, orange and even a mixture of both in each respective eye. The eye colour is often indication of certain genes a cat is carrying, for instance the blue eye colour is known to sometimes be susceptible to hearing loss. This was quickly discovered by breeders in the early stages of breeding and as a guess, major emphasis on breeding orange hair variants with the blue were forced. Unfortunately this did not help the situation and even created cats with mixed eye colour. The single blue eye would often be the side of deafness occurrence. Despite these issues, the white cat still remains as a luxury cat in todays market and the orange eyed British White is very much sought after. It’s a very dependable companion that owners will enjoy raising.
