Calling All Steemians, Let’s Come Together and Create Momentum!
What if we used our combined social media efforts all at once to create some buzz and build momentum?
As we all know, small efforts combined can make a huge difference.
Would we all benefit the more traffic our lovely platform gets, or would we suffer the more crowded it gets? For me, it’s a no-brainer, and judging by my past posts you’ve probably guessed my stance already, how I would love to watch this grow and grow…
With that in mind, here are some things that we can do that cost little effort but can be very effective if combined together in order to introduce more people to Steemit:
The Sound of Thunder
What do you guys think about launching a Thunderclap Campaign? This way, we could use a coordinated social media effort and have a single message to be shared in mass. Kind of like a flash mob effect, enabling our message to rise above the noise of our social networks.
Thunderclap is basically a crowdspeaking platform that enables people to create a campaign by creating a message, gathering “supporters” and rallying them together to share the message on a certain date, the message is then blasted out on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr…
So if we are able to sign up enough people here, we’ll be able to amplify the reach of Steemit even further, creating what Tim Ferris calls: “The Surround Sound Effect.”
Create a Facebook Event
Again, very little hassle, we could create an event and click “invite all”, either that or invite a selective group of friends based on interest or personal choice. Combine that with the number of you guys that want pull together on this one, and we have ourselves a nice party. And it’s absolutely free.
And for those who want to remain anonymous, it still doesn’t cost a thing, you don’t have to invite anyone at all if you don’t want to.
Furthermore, there are tools that allows you identify a target audience and create a database, that list can later be combined by your social media advertisement of choice depending on reach and conversion, but that's the subject of another day.
How do you guys feel about a contest?
Contests are highly popular to bring traffic and increase shareability. Harry’s grooming brand for example and many other companies (Dropbox included) owe their initial success to referral contests.
Would a referral contest for Steemit work in this situation? And by that I mean a sharing contest to bring new users who aren’t familiar with Steemit yet, where the winner gets whatever @ned and @dantheman judge beneficial and rewarding for Steemit. ― In case such idea is even productive or feasible of course.
On that note, which contest idea would you suggest to bring traffic down here? If any of you have some cool ideas, please feel free to suggest.
Having a Strong Why
In the end, it all boils down to empowering the individual, people coming together to create buzz and build momentum, this could turn as easily into a community building adventure. Some of you creating the designs for the ads, others making creative videos, and others putting their marketing skills on display…
All contributing in something great while doing what they’re passionate about.
And who knows, maybe after that you’ll meet interesting people with skills that are complementary to yours and with whom you could work together to bring you own personal projects into fruition as well.
Here's another thought, maybe even have our own little contest? Best ad, best design, best tag line..etc.
And since we’re in the subject, you can introduce yourselves right here for that matter, what talents do you have or what expertise do you possess? What are your interests?
For Steem we Team
If we do this and we manage to successfully create an exceptional campaign, not only it would be substantially beneficial to the community as whole, but at an individual level as well, I suspect many collaborations will be emerge from this as a consequence.
As far as I see, it would be a win-win to all parties involved..
Should we come together and create a hell of a momentum this summer? What do you guys think?
Or even better, what other ideas do you have in mind?
“Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them.
About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.”

I've been pumping out links to here on Facebook and Twitter. I have a fairly small following but have had a few people join here already. I'm ready to join in on a campaign. Also planning a contest and we'll see how that goes. I think @stellabelle is the only one who has done any contest yet. As you know, it's here: https://steemit.com/steem-freetreasures/@stellabelle/minnows-win-the-worlds-first-and-only-steem-dollar-made-of-clay-best-answer-wins I would join in if we do a group contest of some sort.
Also, love that quote you added at the end! Proud to be a crazy one!!
Anyone with an outside blog is eligible for this $300 contest also. If you know someone, you can refer them and get $200 yourself: https://steemit.com/blogspotlight/@donkeypong/300-reward-for-the-most-popular-guest-blog-post-200-finders-fee
Oh, yeah. Thanks @donkeypong !
First of all i think that's great that you brought people to join. That means you have true followers, it reminds me of Kevin Kelly's "1000 True Fans". The thing is if you create content that people stick with, then all you need is amplification to get your content seen more.
That's one of the reasons I think increasing the audience in Steemit would be great, more chance to good writers to bypass gatekeepers and produce good work, even Medium has gatekeepers despite the fact that everyone can post. But as I said, just one of the reasons.
Let me know about the contest that you are planning when you have it! I'm still making considerations on that matter..
Oh, glad that you're proud!
This can become something great
Let's hope!
Great ideas. Steemit ready to contribute for any contest rewards. I also travel to events so if any have any good ones or meetups in their area we could participate in, let me know. We also pay people in Steem to host meetups and promote in creative ways
That'ts great that you travel, that's a great way to meet influences, and promote. You just need to follow up with them from time to time..
About the contest reward, if Steemit is ready to contribute then that's a great news! And I'm not only talking about contest for best ad, contest for best video..
I'm talking about contest to get Steemit exposure on media, radio shows, get an influencer to write about Steemit... Etc.
How would you feel about a something like that?
Sounds like some great ideas here, would be great if you could help organize the contests too. Let's meet up in slack or over email Ned at steemit dot com
I will, it will be my pleasure.
