Choosing The Right Fitbit

in #health8 years ago (edited)

So Many Choices ...

Fitbit continues to be the most popular wearable fitness gadget, and it’s not hard to see why. They are easy to wear, look great, and implement simple, yet innovative, technology that monitors your activity levels.

With six wristbands to choose from, Fitbit have made sure that there is one to cater for every fitness level and budget. With a choice of the Fitbit Charge, Flex, Alta, Charge HR, Surge and Blaze, choosing the best one for you can be a daunting task.

Have no fear, inquisitive reader.

Scroll on to transform yourself (albeit, slowly) into a more informed consumer!

Which Fitbit is best for…your budget?

Everybody knows that Fitbits are most certainly not cheap, but they aren’t the most expensive gadgets that you can buy either. See for instance this water jet pack.

The Fitbit Flex is the cheapest model, starting out, on average, at $89, and is great for a beginner, especially if you’re not sure if you are going to stick with monitoring your exercise. Like the other models, it’ll track your daily steps and miles, as well as letting you know how many calories you’ve burned.

Unlike some of the models however, it doesn’t have a digital screen. Instead you tap the band firmly to bring up five ‘dots,' each of which represents 20% of your daily goal.

If you’re looking for an easy, no-fuss way to monitor your activity levels, the Fitbit Flex is definitely for you.

Which Fitbit is best for… the lazy?

If you’re looking for a Fitbit to keep you motivated and on track to reach your fitness goal, then you have a fair few contenders to choose from. If you struggle to get up in the morning, all of the Fitbits have an alarm which vibrates against your wrist to wake you up gently. Beware, however, the Blaze and the Surge models have a snooze feature, so it may be worth giving these two a miss if you’re prone to procrastinating starting your day!

One of the most useful models for the lazy people may be the Alta – it has a ‘reminder to move,' a smart feature that nudges you to get up and walk at least 250 steps an hour. The Alta is also quite reasonably priced, and falls within the midrange of Fitbits, starting at around $129.

Which Fitbit is best for…Gadget Lovers?

Without a doubt, those who love technology should get the latest model, the Fitbit Surge, if you don’t mind splashing out around $199, of course.

With all the best features of the previous models, the Surge is hailed as the ‘ultimate fitness super watch,’ and feels like an evolution from the other, more normal Fitbits. Unlike the other models, it comes with an accurate GPS tracker, and allows you to monitor your exercise in real time, great if you spend a lot of time in the gym.

It also boasts a larger screen and, like the Charge, Charge HR, and Blaze, has an ‘altimeter,’ meaning it can now measure how many floors you have climbed in a day.

If you’re more about style, however, you might want to give the Surge a miss, as it definitely wasn’t gifted with a sleek design – looking more like a 1980’s watch. It’s also only currently available in black.

There’s definitely a Fitbit for everyone. If you must choose, choose wisely!

Such a trendy little gadget and so useful to many. I'm glad to read a short summary about them. Thanks for the information, thrive on and namaste! :)

Welcome! It's been ages since we got to see someone strike it rich on their first post!

I have the FitBit HR and after about a month the "glue" that holds the band on wore off and it started to "peel". Luckily FitBit has a great warranty for it and they sent me another one, no charge. They asked for me to recycle the old one.

That happened with my regular fitbit charge. It started "peeling" on one side...then the other. I exchanged it for a hr. Better band. Lets see how much this one lasts.

Yes, the new one is still good for now. What I have found is that you should leave it off while in the shower. Keep it out of the bathroom when taking a shower also.

Yes because i dont think its supposed to get wet. I will completely leave it out of the bathroom next time though. Thanks for the reminder!

As a fitness buff, I love my Fitbit one. The reason I chose this model was simple: I did not want to wear two wristwatches. I just clip the unit into my pocket and rarely look at it. I also use it to monitor my sleep patterns at night (it tells me that I don't sleep enough!). For me, the Fitbit motivates me to avoid long periods of sitting, which evidence is showing is truly detrimental to one's health.

I expect a new Apple watch to be released sometime this year, maybe wait for that?

ill wait for better android ones to come out apple is over priced tech is limited. Android least you can play around with the source code and add in extra things for the way you want your fit watch to work. Plus can get custom roms for them to run a lot better than the stock one as highly developed and can easily create custom builds to them. Apple too much messing.

lol, my phone does that already without even asking me (as well as pokemon go )

I love my Fitbit!
