First Day at Summer Camp

Summer camp was beginning today in spite of the whispers of a weird presence being seen there.

The camp was nearly a hundred years old and in very good repair and the grounds were grassy and tree studded with a lake for swimming and canoeing.

Kids hurried about getting registered and horsing around getting to know one another. Unpacking and getting settled in was a priority as councilors were busy handing out camper responsibility lists.

With the ringing of the huge dinner bell everyone rushed to get the best seats and head of the line as though the food might run out.

Girls had first priority as a safety measure of not getting trampled.

Entertainment was all around as the dinning hall was the main attraction with its offerings of healthy food much to the chagrin of many of the diners.

As dinner wound down and the campers cleared their tables it was off to the cabins where everyone was ready for a good nights sleep as tomorrow was a full day of boating, archery, horseback riding, canoeing, swimming and crafts to name a few of the activities.

Finally the chatter had ceased and everyone was asleep for the night when suddenly a blood curdling scream pierced the night quiet. The councilors ran to see what on earth was going on. There one of the boys screaming and wild eyed. He said he had awakened and this soldier was standing at the foot of his bed. He said when he screamed it was as though the soldier turned around and disappeared in a filmy fog The councilor said, as though every one knew, "oh, that is just the Colonel. He's here every year.
