Tilted head
Titled Head
I did a visit to Central Park and came across a new art piece near the entrance to the Park across from the Plaza Hotel by the entrance walkway to the Zoo.
The piece is titled the tilted Head and is by Mark Manders

The first shot I shared is my favorite shot of it but from this post I thought I would share shots of it from a different angles, the pigeons give a sense of its size, but in this next shot the people in shot give a good idea of how big it is.
What do you think it is made of?

Now a shot from the back, I thought the chairs built in as part of the statue was a cool touch and this view makes it look like it is made of clay and everyday objects doesn't it.

Now from another angle showing more of the detail.
So what do you think it is made of now?

And now the last shot and then I will tell you what it is made of.

It has the appearance of unfired clay combined with everyday objects but in fact is made entirely of cast bronze. The cracks and fissures that cover its surface imply an organic process of drying and decay, yet its metal form is fixed

Wow, I never would have guessed it was made of bronze! I was thinking cement...
Im not good at figuring out the artist's message... I have no idea what this statue is supposed to symbolize, but it IS interesting!
Great shots!
I am not sure what it is meant to symbolize the cool thing is people may read so many things into it it’s left up to the viewers imagination
wow, cool piece of art - I never would have guessed bronze! Thanks for sharing (and taking the time to show us the whole piece!)
I think this is one of my favorite sculptures I have seen for quite a while here when I saw it I thought different people would read different things into it and that has been confirmed by some of the comments
thanks for your visit
Thanks for the resteem appreciated :)
Strange yet intriguing...
Thats a good way to describe it I normally keep up with new art in the parks but I had not seen anything about this one so it was cool to come across it
Stunning sculpture @tattoodjay, to me it looks the way many of us feel, tired of the decay all around! Cracks everywhere but like that song by Leonard Cohen says There's a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in.
Thanks for sharing!

I love the Leonard Cohen Saying, I dont think I had heard it before but it will stick in my memory now :)
Its interesting reading peoples thought son the statue,m its cool how people see different things in the same sculpture, but that said I had a similar take on it as you did
I love how it uses elements of stage craft and magician craft. Allowing the viewer to beyond the third wall and see into tricks of the artist. Your shots around the piece bring the piece alive thanks for sharing.

thanks I thought a shot from just one angle did not really do the piece justice and hence walked around, gives people that see the post a chance to really experience it
Awesome photo that first one.
Looks like an old and abandoned huge statue fall apart for the time. Maybe the decay of our own time.
Or at least that's what came to me when I see it.
Thanks for share and greetings.

Thanks for your visit, thats how I felt the first time I saw it as well, it makes a powerful statement doesn't it
What an amazing piece of art, JJ! @Tattoodjay This is exactly why I love the city and much as you dislike it in so many ways, you will miss the adrenaline rush that you get when you find these amazing pieces practically littering the city.
This really was a fabulous find and it honestly looked like clay to me. Bronze is a huge step up.
Nice find and keep on feeding me the arts! I love it!

Yes you are right i was discussing that with a friend today at work, as much as I complain about the concrete Jungle I will miss it and all the cool things I find on my walks, and then I discussed how I have yet to go on the Roosevelt Island cable car, I must overcome the fear and do it before I leave
This was a surprise find, and I must thanks you for it as it was after one of your post it reminded me to do a visit to Central park and to find this
!tip
Well, that is exciting! And I am glad if anything I said or did spur that!
You need to just get on that Roosevelt Island Cable Car! You will want to kick yourself if you don't do it! It is less than 5 minutes of fun and the view is amazing.
What is the worse that could happen??? Wear a life vest! LOL
you for sure did spur it remember the post where you took the shot looking through a circle on a bridge :)
I havent ridden a cable car since 1983, even when I visited Masada I ran up the hill and down rather than taking the cable car.
and whats the worse thing that could happen, let me just say when I get ready to get on it I remember the last time I was in a queue to get on a cable car, which was back in 1983 in Singapore, some tourists barged in front of me and the group I was with, one of the guy got really fired up so we dragged him away and went for a beer, when we got back, it was just as a boat hit the cable and the car we would have been in crashed into the wwater, thats the one we would have been on,
but I am now telling myself feel the fear and do it anyway, MInd you I have been saying this since I got here lOL

Wow. It is a fine piece of art for sure. I would of said it was made of poured concrete. Love the details in the back. One gets a sense the sculpture was trying to save his piece. Thanks for sharing, Jay. Wish I could get to New York again and I am so thankful that you takes us there all the time:)
I was pleasantly surprised when I saw this some of the art in the city doesn’t grab me but this one sure did
I enjoy walking the city and seeing what I can find and will keep doing that as long as I work there 😎
