@steemhunt Focusing Upon Comments: New System And Payouts

in #busy6 years ago (edited)

I absolutely love the creativity and innovation coming out of the team @steemhunt. These people really are providing updates at a rapid pace to improve their system.

It seems that applications are starting to go comment crazy. This is the second one that directly is rewarding posters for commenting on the articles.

This application now went a bit farther than simply upvoting comments or giving tokens to everyone making them. Instead, they created an entire system around comment rewards.

There were a couple things done in their latest update that look exciting.

To start, they created Hunt-based Comment Curations. Essentially, they took their scoring system that is applied to posts and are using it for comments. Comments will be based upon Hunt scores just like posts. Each upvote will be based upon the voting weight of the user.

In an effort to reduce spam they also came up with a thumbs down scoring system. If a comment gets 10 TDS (thumb down score), that comment goes gray.

Another new feature is they created an Airdrop category for upvoting comments. 10,000 Hunt tokens are available per day to people who upvote comments. Previously, this was only applied to the posts.

Finally, @steemhunt will upvote 100 comments per day out of their main account. This is something they were doing before and are continuing. The comments they upvote will be based upon the Hunt score those comments receive. This is further incentive to write comments that will capture people's attention and not the typical "nice post" stuff.

I have to tell you, it is teams like those @steemhunt that really excite me about the Steem blockchain. As I wrote earlier, their creativity continues to amaze. They come up with so many ideas that are a gift to the entire ecosystem. We are fortunate to be able to watch this unfold and be a part of it.

It is very difficult to determine what will be the killer application but this is one that is in the running. The reason why I like this approach to the comments is because this application is targeting a different market. @steemhunt is after businesses. They want companies to come to them with products they need promoted on their site. This is the idea behind Reviewhunt. Hence, I look at this as a precursor to the implementation of that service.

It only makes sense for them to try and incentivize the best comments they can. Businesses want real feedback and a bunch of "great hunt" comments offers little. At the same time, well thought out comments shows the knowledge and interest of the community. This provides the opportunities for Steemians to show how much value they can add.

We often forget how important image and branding are. The online world is full of trolls and social media is at the head of the class with that. Most people online do not care nor do their pages reflect that. Platforms such as Facebook certainly are not worried about trolling since their business model is simply selling advertising (and data) which is driven by number of users. That is their main focus.

@steemhunt is presenting a different model. It appears they are looking to present the Hunt Community as experts in the technical product field. Having a community of people who know what makes these types of products or applications successful provides a big boost to the entire platform when dealing with companies. The comment section is one that potential vendors will take a look at.

This is also a reminder to all of us on a bigger level of what it means to be on Steem. This is our ecosystem. Everyone with Steem Power has a vested interest in what is taking place. Our "product" is on stage all the time. What we put up is a reflection of what is here. When people put up a lot of spammy stuff, outsiders see that.

@steemhunt is taking the initiative on this one. They are seeking to make sure their platform is presented in the best light. All Hunters need to show their expertise in the comment section. It is all part of the move towards bringing in business to the Steem blockchain. Every single one of us who does anything on that site are a part of that.

Plus, just like Steem, anyone holding a Hunt token is a stakeholder. This is our platform.

PS: Steemhunt has always upvoted comments. On days there have been more than 600 comments which were submitted on hunts, many (also due to use of alt accounts) qualifying for upvotes.

A bonus with this community moderated comment system is that because less comments will be upvoted, more general voting weight will be available and thus both qualifying hunts and comments will receive vastly higher upvotes.

Thanks @fknmayhem. Yes @steemhunt always upvoted comments which was a major appeal to the application. Now, you are correct, there is a bigger incentive to post better content in the comment section since there will be less upvotes but at a higher payout.

This is another incentive to try and get people thinking about putting up pertinent information that adds to the article thread.

In Steemhunt mod voice: now to be a nutcracker for low quality hunts. They better contain a great description of the hunted product if a lazy hunt because that isn’t what “isn’t a writing curation project” is supposed to mean. If only we could find a Proof of Effort matrix. ;)

Thanks for the update. I bought some more STEEM yesterday. Have a great weekend.

I bought some earlier in the week @clumsysilverdad. That is why the price of STEEM went down...after I buy, it drops. LOL

ha, been there... hopefully we are at bottom, for all our sakes !!

incredibly comments and feedback, yeah the upvoting system was talked about from a mods perspective and then it looks like it's got expanded. i'm not sure how the circle gangs will deal with voting down people they don't like (because they don't conform to their wishes) or if it will become an intellectual one side comment race but the notion of putting better comments at the top is great, and to be rewards. amazing! -- thanks for such an amazing new post about our baby @steemhunt :) (iz a mod)

I have to thank you and all who are actively involved in @steemhunt for bringing such an amazing platform forward to all of us. It is a pleasure to write a post about what is being done there since it is totally forward thinking and an major asset to Steem.

oh it's the team, i mean @project7 and @tabris are so laser focused, and all the mods have helped shape it and the influencers are now adapting to the next requirement which is quality. it was as natural fit for me as i worked with brands on strats before this (nokia, crayon, etc) so i see this as the future of brands working with media makers -- when the youtube ship finally sinks they will arrive in droves and they will instantly want to get HUNT tokens to get in on the action. that's my thinking anyway! :)

i will say i think our team is the most fluid, dynamic and fast to act dapps out there, it's a great project, every week, something new! -- thank you for taking the time to write about it, i know everyone is pumped when you submitting something about it.

I still don't understand why steemians didn't claim free hunt tokens at initial airdrop.

Only about 18%. One of the most baffling things I came across in the crypto world. It was all sitting out there for them.

And next year they'll start to point the fingers at hunt whales and complaining.

Good to know.
Steem is starting to grow rapidly.
Glad you are informing us about it.
