Tva Konungabarn

I'm working on this song in Swedish.
I don't actually speak Swedish, except what i'm learning from the song...
There are 8 verses, and I have 3 verses down.

If you happen to speak the language and pronunciation or translation tips, feel free to share them!

Here it is on YouTube if D-Tube doesn't work for you.

@vermillionfox pointed me in your direction so I could see unboxings of tarot card, but this was much better. I am from Denmark and I think you are doing a very good job considereing you do not speak the language.

Swedish people have this wonderful singing way of speaking English, and when listening to you, an American singing in Swedish it is like hearing them in reverse, so I think you are on to the right thing.

It is hard to correct pronunciation when you are not there with people, but the Danish folk-black-metal singer Myrkur made a version of the song and I also found this guy who sings a nice Swedish. You can use it as reference.

Thank you!
I've found 2 different pronunciations of the word "åtskilja"
Oat-chillya(like Niekku says) and oat-willya(like this guy says). Do you know which is right?

It is Oat-chillya - but the chi-sound is one of the most difficult in Swedish. Åtskilja is not the worst one (because that is sjuksköterska - nurse). The guy in the video I found also says it but I can understand that it is hard to differentiate. I grew up in Sweden, but there are sounds in Faroese that I can not pronounce.

Here are some examples of the ch-sound

Thank you @kathatrsisdrill!
I literally didn't hear the ch sound a single time in that video:D

Now I have tried to make a soundfile and I have posted it on Dtube - I hope it will help a little. If nothing else you can hear the actual word: Åtskilja, a lot of times :)

This is my first ever audio-file so I am not that sure of myself.

I just listened to the version by Niekku and the way she pronounces it is Finnish-Swedish which is spoken by a minority on the south-west coast of Finland. The way the guy in the video above pronounces it is in normal Swedish with this difficult CHI-sound. Most Danes can' pronounce it either.

Here is the Danish Black-metal singer Myrkur's beautiful version. She is Danish and doesn't pronounce it entirely correct with this sucking chi-sound, but closer to normal, modern Swedish than the Finns.

I like that you try to play and sing a song in another language, even if you don't speak it.

I try!
I'm learning the languages... slowly:)
Someday I will meet my language tutor.

I have no clue if you're pronouncing things properly, or what the words mean, but your voice (as always) is AWESOME! This has a wicked, "sitting around the fire before a battle" kind of vibe. Beautifully done, good sir!

It totally does!

I’m trying to get one to be a challenge for you. lol This one might be it. “The Chemical Worker’s Song” by Great Big Sea. I think it only has percussion from a bodhran. Maybe you can beat on your guitar? Maybe strum something? I don’t know. Think you can do it??

I've heard this song in the pubs. I will give it a shot.

lol Geez! I was trying to find ya song you didn’t even know of! I’ll get you one of these days.
