Desk PUNCH - First version ready
Following up on my last concept design post, see here, I completed today my two prints and assembled the first version of the Desk PUNCH.
My idea was to connect two printed parts to a spring and a softball. So the first thing I did was to measure the sizes for the spring in oder to design a stand and softball holder in Fusion 360 with the right dimensions.
Once that was done I started to model the Desk PUNCH stand first and gave it a polygon shape to make it look more interesting. The stand print took 7,5 hours.
While the print was running I went to the children room and "borrowed" a softball from the boys. After measuring the size of the ball I modelled the second part in Fusion360 to hold the ball and connect to other end of the spring.
I had to use a lot of support for this print and this part took another 5,5 hours.
After I removed the support material.
With everything in place I could now finally go and start the fun part, assembly.
I used my hand drill and drilled a whole in the softball in oder to screw in the connection part. I also used a bit of hot glue to make sure it doesn't come off quickly.
Ready to put everything together.
Some points I noticed that need improvement. The spring is to weak and doesn't bounce back when hitting the ball, I will buy a stronger spring next week and hope I can use the current parts with it. Another thing is the weight. Currently I need to hold the stand with one hand and punch with the other hand. A great way would be to combine the printed parts with cement or concrete to make it heavier but I am not sure yet how to do that best.
Overall I am happy with the first version. Once the remaining issues are sorted I will upload the parts to thingiverse for free download.
Thank you and all the best!
