Meet and greet
Off to another of our offices today to meet some of my new colleagues there. I am on the bus now and will be on the train in meetings with my boss soon so, will keep it short.
It is interesting to be around trainers with different backgrounds than myself as well as those I have grown accustomed to as each has their own style and easy to approach. There is a lot of overlap of course but little idiosyncrasies in personality can make a big difference, the way one stands, the tone of voice, a smile.
While I do it well enough, I don't consider myself great with first impressions as my strength is more in the ongoing efforts. For my new team, I am hoping that I can find my place as a gap filler by working out what they are missing and providing the support in that area. As I may have mentioned, my team seems intent on developing and using people's strengths rather than only focus on their weakness, which is lucky because there is a lot to focus on for me :)
For a long time now I haven't had to worry about impressing anyone in a workplace, all of my effort could go to my clients. Office politics however they work essentially dictate stone amount of effort required to get access to certain opportunities.
My plan in this area is to spend my early time learning my job the best I can and staying in the fringes a little too see how things work. Some like to jump straight in and put their hand up for everything to prove themselves, which reminds me of an old joke.
God was creating Adam and Eve and had two traits left over that he decided to offer to them. He asked from them both, "who wants to pee standing up?" And Adam jumped in and excitedly shouted "Me, me, me!". God turned to Eve and said, "Looks like you get multiple orgasms."

The introvert in me tends to take a similar approach when starting a new role as I also am right now. I have been on the sidelines as things occur in front of me which has given me an assessment of how the team and the business works. I find it better to integrate using their customs as it provides the sense of continuity while I slowly influence my style. However, being this my third team to takeover, the different approaches has been curious to deal with as a consolidation of efforts and culture will need to start to blend which may be challenging for some and their 15 year routine.

I am lucky in this as the dynamic of change is an expectation from the group and they are part of the change process for the company itself. So far, I am pretty happy with the direction it is taking at the new position :)
Wow! I didn't see that joke coming... Very funny. As usual I like your posts because I don't know what the ending will be from the title or the first paragraph. A well-designed element of surprise that keeps me wanting to read more.
PS Good use of the time while on the bus... What kind of device were you using to post?
I was on my phone (s7 samsung). I don't like posting from the phone though and I dislike commenting from it even more which is why I generally wait until I have a keyboard, so when I get home. Due to the nature of my new company, I am not comfortable logging in from their devices as they are very, very security conscious =)
Yes and the bus driving and typing is not good for our eyes. Better to listen to audio books or podcasts.

When driving to and from clients I listen to podcasts and on the train I am able to use a laptop normally so it is okay.
You are really funny about the sentences about the Adam and Eve at the last part. I guess Eve was slow respomding to God and Adam took advamtage of that. Lol. I have not been into a train before but i will still wish to one day. Nice post
