Im-perma permalinks and curation calculations

in #steem5 years ago (edited)

I noticed this last night but didn't think much of it. This is taken from @penguinpablo's steemnow.com page:

It seems that the permalink address has been changed for comments which is fine in and of itself but, it does make it hard to know what the comment was attached to. Ona side note, how hard is it to add the links to Steemnow @penguinpablo?

This is what the new permalink looks like:

https://steemit.com/steem/@tarazkp/ps05b8

Before it looked like something like this (taken from a comment a few days ago):

https://steemit.com/esteem/@tarazkp/re-wolfhart-re-tarazkp-re-wolfhart-may-19th-sunday-recap-beedff391ab06-20190522t054338626z

I am not sure why this is but I am guessing it has something to do with the changes being implemented on Steemit.com (that is what I am writing on at the moment) - or perhaps the way the Blockchain links because of Hivemind and Mira implementations being tested or rolled out.

There is also the new (edited) identifier on comments but it is not a hyperlink. It would be nice if it goes to the previous versions of a comment for afaik, there is no longer an easy way to see the edits. There used to be a site where you could put the URL to see what had changed but it is ded.

I think access to the information is part of freedom of information so it would be nice if it didn't require being a data diver to find edits. For those that don't yet realize, editing only changes the view of it, the blockchain records all changes, there is no delete. This is a good thing in my opinion, except when I say something bloody stupid.

Being able to easily see the edits can also be part of finding abuse as there are tricks that people play, like recently a couple photographers editing very old posts to remove the pictures to recycle them and adding in completely different stories. They were changing the entire history of their account and the only way to know this is being able to see the edit history. It is no good having an immutable Blockchain if only a few can access the power of immutability.

This is actually going to get very interesting in the future as there are going to be an increasing amount of cases where immutability is going to be both a saving grace and a nail in the coffin. It is already that on the internet very little is ever really gone forever but once it all gets scrapable with very little effort and through automatized tools, it is going to get messy.

The other thing that came up in a @cryptoandcoffee post is related to steemworld.org where the calculations for curation were not accurate. I am unsure if this is related and haven't checked it myself, but I found this interesting too. Perhaps @steemchiller has an idea of why that is.

Ugh... back to work.
Maybe some lunch first

I don't think that the calculation issue is related to recent changes in steemd's logic. Maybe the answer is to be found in ps08vs. That sucks... ^^

Will try to find out more and fix it as soon as possible ;)

Excellent. As said, I haven't double checked it but I am sure you can much faster than I can :)

Definitely has to do with the changes I'm sure.

i must be bored :)

Go for a walk ;P

naw i'll just go finish reading @galenkp post seems interesting :)

More interesting than this one at least.
