Downvote: Seeing a little red

Well, this is the fastest implementation I think I have seen on Steemit.com - Good job.

I was going to flag "Justin Eh" (@justineh) for spreading falsities, but couldn't find the flag icon. Instead, there was a little red circle next to the upvote button that is curiously called a "downvote". I don't quite get the logic but I am sure that some people might.

Here it is in all its wonderful glory:

I meant - look at the red button, not the profile image of Eh. (A Canadian surname?)

While a lot of people might disagree with the concept of taking away rewards, it is actually a necessary component of the ecosystem that protects the rewards from abuse. Well, some abuse. There are still plenty of other ways to game the system but having the ability to downvote is a core component as it brings in an element of cost to the system.

The basic concept to remember though is that "payout pending" is not yours until it is locked in your wallet behind your private key. Up until the point of transfer, that Steem is still in the pool and available to be allocated, or reallocated as the case may be. This actually happens without downvotes all the time as every vote made changes the distribution of the available pool in some way, generally it is so small that it goes unnoticed. However, when there are very large votes cast, one would see it reflected in their pending payout too.

Read the post, learn what you can from people and with the red and green so close together, get ready for Christmas. There won't be any flags this year though. For me, the green and red remind me of the markets so, I think it is fitting.

Note: For the UI team, I would suggest making the slider on the downvote red also to save any mixups, especially on mobile.
