Charting a course and the numbers unseen

in #steem6 years ago

@abh12345 did one of his chart sales not too long back and then asked about the third one of mine that showed earned SBD and Steem. On a side note, go buy 30 cents worth of ENGAGE tokens on @Steem-engine and get a chart made as, the boy has to eat.

I like looking back at these charts as it gives me a chance to analyze my path over the 2+ years and also reflect a little on how far I have come. People say it is impossible on Steem and while not everyone is suited to earning the same as I have managed, impossible is not the issue, suitability might be. There is more than just posting here, more than just doing what you want also and, much more work is generally required than most people are willing to do.

I am lucky. I have been willing.

Let's look at the chart a little.

You will notice the strange shape of the orange line, that is because it is STEEM earned, not SP which means it is only earned when SBD isn't printing at the full rate. As you can see, over the last 2 years I have earned about 6500 Steem while SBD was printing less than 100%.

image.png

The blue line however is the SBD earned and that has some plateaus in it also. Now, the flat spots are when SBD isn't printing but, that is not the case when Steem earnings are also flat. The reason I know this is that I am likely one of the most consistent "non-bot" posters on the platform and haven't missed many days of posting... ever.

You can see between points 2 and 3 (Aug - Dec 2017) that there are both flat SBD and Steem meaning that what was happeing was - 100% powerup during that time - no liquids.

Vests earned on posts.

This one is interesting as it shows the vest earnings that I have made on posts. If you don't know this, you actually don't earn Steem, you earn vests and there is a conversion to Steem that varies slightly.

image.png

As you can see, my vest earnings have been pretty consistent, there haven't been massive jumps here or there and this is probably because I post consistently regardless of what is going on with my life. But, what you will also notice is that there is an uptick in the last few months and that is because I have been using the @ocdb bot to boost posts.

While I am not a big fan of vote buying, I am a fan of people who are thinking long-term on Steem having power in the future and I hope that those who do and are whitelisted will use the bot and power up what they get out of it as it offers a flat rate positive return and is completely non-profit, meaning no middlemen skimming. At the moment it has some large delegations and finally people are starting to use it. The more that use it, the lower the maximum buy will become which will mean it will distribute to more people. Those who can use it, don't abuse it.

On to curation earned

image.png

As you can see, there are two kinks in the line on what my curation earnings have been. The first is a 25,000 delegation I paid for and while it was lucrative when SBD was riding high, it ended up running at a loss for a long time before I gave it up after a year. The second toward the end of 2018 was when I was lucky enough to get a delegation from a friend that allowed me to not only give up the other with little loss, it meant I could keep delegating out to others too. Besides my delegation to @ocdb, I have about 8000 SP delegated for free to various people with some of the delegations dating back to 2017.

I also powered up a 'fair bit' towards the end of 2018 by selling most of the EOS I had been holding. I sold pretty cheap considering what it had been riding at but the thing is that I have very little idea what EOS is about so it was holding for profit alone. I would rather put that in on Steem and use it to earn and to help others.

What does this all mean?

I don't really know what it tells other than that I have been working and voting on content over the last 2 years consistently but, it speaks nothing of what I have actually been doing. They would be other charts altogether.

image.png

2714 (now 2715) top level posts and 18149 comments in that two years. I also have 49727 votes cast on the platform and I only manually vote and, I have received 12654 comments on my posts and I have answered and voted on close to all of the real ones with generally a lot more than "Thanks". I don't know how many words I have written in posts but something like a third of the words I have written on the blockchain have come in the form of comments.

The trouble often is that when people look at the charts and the earnings of others they do not look at the work both on and off chain required to earn it, they don't see what goes on behind a post, they don't consider that the person writing has a real life at all - all they look at is the SP earned or held and they make their judgement based on that.

It is much like all of the people who want to earn like a sports star without considering that 95% of the career is spent training.

That is for another post perhaps though and for hell's sake, if you have a little to spare, pay Asher for his work at least occasionally :D I know that normally I preach more the HODL mindset, but I think it is pretty cool that these tokens are out on the market and they are meant to be used.

Thank you for the super-sized plug :) I feel people are too used to free stuff from me though, but i'll carry on with the ENGAGE tokens for now :)

3-4 on the SBD line looks pretty rapid and a good time to be earning there.

Wondering how my curation estimate chart of a few months ago will be in line with the end of year take :)

Can I get FREE ENGAGE tokens?

XD

Likely :D

You have some already though!

A good time in SBD but not in Steem. I was usually powering it up to Steem while most others were selling the high price SBD.

Stupid, Stupid Taraz :D

It is going to be interesting to see these over 3, 8, 15 years one day :D

I was selling in Dec/Jan, but very little over the spring/summer.

I'd better look after this laptop then as it could be a while before I could get another!

I will buy you one with my drug money from drug wars. Btw, is it possible to know how much i have made by signing in but not playing the game at all? :D

ahh, thanks :) You might need to expand your empire though:

You can also use bookkeeping to see how much you have blown....

That 0.162 will be worth 0.4 one day.... :D Score!!!!

Out of curiosity, if you sold all your S&M cards, would you be up?

:D

It would be a good addition to bookkeeping to add the current market value of the cards, not just how much you paid/received.

but that info is in the SM discord....

Yes, I think?

cool. Did you know that if you get enough rusty robots you can combine them into voltron for a near undefeatable card?

Just think, people are burning them...

I think what should hit home about your charts is the consistent growth line. This is hard to achieve as it means loads of work. There is very little relaxing in your time here and it shows. You have kept your foot on the pedal no matter what the price of Steem was.

You have kept your foot on the pedal no matter what the price of Steem was.

No matter the price and no matter the life. Once I recognised the opportunity of Steem, I moved.

The low price is a massive opportunity. That's how I treat it.

Yes it is and I hope that people who can are taking advantage of it when they can.

It is much like all of the people who want to earn like a sports star without considering that 95% of the career is spent training.

Well said. Charts do not record the work you put into it but only the results. Thanks @tarazkp

There would have to be many charts at the very least :)

Hi there. Since you are being so open and transparent about your activities and earnings on the steem platform, can I ask, is any of your Steem Power bought or is it all earned through your content and curation rewards? Asking for a friend :-)
Thanks in advance.

Most of my steem power is earned but I have bought some steem at varying prices, the highest 2.50. I have also traded various things back and forth and bought back into Steem too. Steen is most of my Holdings though.

Thanks. I appreciate the reply.

Whenever i see a chart in crypto it points up. :D
But yeah those are some nice gains. Would you say that your Steem earnings account for more then 50% of your Steem holdings?

More, but I have bought a little over time and traded back and forth too.

Im a smaller account so its easier for me to outdo the buy in. (What i bought is about 1/4 of my total) Was wondering how a bigger account performs.

I started at zero and had no real idea what crypto was or what I was doing for many months. If I had, I would have likely bought from 7c up. Opportunity only exists for those prepared for it but, I definitely wasn't.

Well, i thought i was.... Bought at $1 then 2 months later i was at 0.25$ per steem, and could have basically been sitting on 10k SP if i had been patient.
But who knows, maybe buying at 1$ will prove to be a steal down the line. I can only go to this and be hopeful. :D

Hard work always pays off my friend! Crazy to see how consistent you have been and remained considering real life happens more often than not!

Life does happen but when it happens, Steem has become part of my processing of it. I think it is more social than social medias.

So, I bought some engage, what do I get again? :)

Excellent. Now, send them to @null.

Ash is experimenting with them and I like experiments.

Interesting to see on a chart the different times when they stopped printing sbd or the times when you were powering up 100%. Im no where near as consistent so mine would just be all random chaos.

I find it interesting and it helps me understand the system. When sbd was above one I was 50/50 and buying Steen with it. Well, I buy steem with and at any price really :)

Thanks

There's always one...

Just couldn't resist! :0D
