Birth, life, death: The fate of all things.

in #steem6 years ago (edited)

People talk about the Steem experiment but really, it is a test of faith. We want to believe that it is all going to work out and benefit us in some way and we invest ourselves in hoping for a chance at that future. It is not so different to someone putting their faith in the words of a random book that speaks of a magical place full of plenty, and a confusing road map if how to get there. Until 'there' no one can really know if the map provided leads anywhere at all and, so far, no one has come back with proof.

For Steem and cryptocurrencies in general, no one can come back from there because there hasn't happened before, much of it is new. And even though similar things have happened in the past, they have never happened on a global scale with the technology to connect and communicate quickly and broadly. Like scaling issues where small scale success doesn't necessarily extrapolate to mean large scale success, potentially the problems in the past were that the volumes were too small and the critical mass point was unreachable with that weight.

What if this time it is different?

That is what we are banking on isn't it? We are investing into a prediction that this time the critical mass will be reached to unbalance the status quo and overturn centuries of authoritarian rule. Doesn't seem very likely when put like that but, here we are, giving it a go all the same. Stranger things have happened after all.

The thing is that no matter how history is looked at, there is one thing that is always constant, well actually two. Change is always present and, all things end. Change is present until everything everywhere in all that is known stops moving completely which would be, the end. But everything within those boundaries will have a life cycle akin to birth, life and death, no mater if it is a sun, a mountain, or a chirping cricket.

So, by the rule of nature, all things created will disappear and that includes civilizations, the strongest of nations or, the most oppressive of regimes. No political party, nor financial institution will survive time. This not only means that they will atrophy into nothingness though as like any organic organism, a life cycle can be manipulated and influenced to prolong or, shorten life span.

Perhaps, we are not the cure to the ills of the earth, maybe we are the poison to the oppressor, the miners who undermine the castle walls, one brick at a time. Would Steem still be a success if instead of becoming the play maker for economic revolution, it was the life taker of financial status quo? Would you be happy if instead of personal freedom with the stake you have so painstakingly built, that stake went through the heart of the oppressor to free others?

It is interesting to think about for me as essentially, instead of being the pioneers on the frontier of making history, we could be the martyrs on the front line of becoming history. Is it still worth it if there is no personal gain other than being a part of changing the course of the future?

When we are evaluating the revolution and investing into the future, we are seeing ourselves as the victors, not the fallen on the battlefield who's bones pave the way for others to walk safely and freely. If we recognize the risks of reality will you still rush in to the fray, flags waving, chanting for a better world?

No one except in myth and legend is born a hero. Heroes are made by being in the wrong place at the right time and being forced to act. No matter the fear that constricts their belly or the sweat of effort that will pour from their brow, as the fight for survival of themselves continues for long enough to defeat the beasts that threaten the survival of others.

No matter how we look at the battle however, the war cannot be one unless that critical mass point is reached where there is enough to tip the scales in favor of the many, instead of those who control the weight of resources. At the moment, we are severely undermanned, under-supplied and lacking the cohesion to even stand upon the plate to be accurately weighted.

The test of faith isn't in the investment alone, it is in the trust that the community will cooperate enough to come together and be counted as one for long enough, to take down the threats. There is no one person who can do it alone, there is no small group. Everything has a life cycle, how long ours is is going to depend on us, not them. They are happy where they are, feeling safe.

A rags to riches for most of us anyway. I think it is more than hope as change has to happen. If there was no hope the crypto market would have disappeared already. You hit the nail on the head saying it is a community that needs to come together to make it work.

Not much more to say about...
just to show up and make it happen :D

If there was no hope the crypto market would have disappeared already.

We are not out of the woods by any stretch but, perhaps we can sharpen an axe.

You can use an axe, I will use a chain saw.

It is quite remarkable, the modern West's obsession with scientism and its blind zealotry in imagining that all of man's problems will be solved with the next shiny bauble. The collective sum of human experience reaching back to the dawn of human consciousness reveals only one fact: men have killed and enslaved men; each novel technical advancement brings only new places and way for men to die and serve. The future is but a repeat of men's collective tendencies on a different scale. Nihil novo sub sole.

The idea that inanimate tools, created by men, will somehow solve problems created by men's thoughts, tendencies, and failures is the essence of blind faith and hubris combined. If history illustrates anything, those proficient at use of tools become dependent upon them, ultimately weakening them to life in the absence of the said tools. The absence of a thing is just as significant as the presence: absence of oxygen, absence of money, absence of information, absence of that to which we are addicted. Can utopia become reality for those for whom use of power is as foreign as self-control? The interminable examples of the misery the muck benighted by lottery or favors illustrate the folly of pining for utopia birthed from the next technical "revolution."

What is your solution, if only for yourself?

Life is not a problem to be solved. Do rational being ask themselves what the solution to gravity, 24-hour time cycle, or entropy would be? Man needs to know himself, but equally importantly, he must also know what he is not. Human sociopolitical organization is reality to be accepted, not imagined away with fantasies of scientism. Life is inherently unequal; it is a factual reality much like that of gravity, planetary spin cycle, and entropic death. By imposing delusions of equality - whether in the form of resource allocation or sociopolitical "consensus" - man creates inevitable counter-force that will ultimately restore human social organization into that of hierarchy, more rigid and merciless than prior iterations. All social organizations are pyramidal in structure, not by accident, but by reality of creation. Once a man accepts this reality, then he can comport himself to align with forces of creation, rather than railing futilely against the universe for perceived injustice.

In the ancient past, men erected altars to inanimate objects, in their pitiful attempts at coercing nature. In today's degenerate West, men continue to erect shrines to lifeless tools and scientism, in their futile attempts at bending reality. Can mere man command the sun to not shine? Can this delusional creature demand extension or contraction of planetary orbits? Accept the reality of life and remain grateful for the privileges accorded by your masters. Revolution is a game played by opportunists who use the meatbag tools to pave their road to ascension.

So, your path or position however you want to look at it is sit, remain inactive as an individual and accept station? Does this make you feel alive, living? The injustice isn't in the environment, it is in the self.

A life of obligation, discipline, and intention would seem dull to restless, feckless, grasping mind of modern humanists. Consider, however, the fruits of humanism: a society fractured by identity-less, purposeless, envious, drug addled meatbags bickering over and grasping at meaningless freedoms proffered by irresponsible populist whores, racing towards extinction. What sane man would desire to mimick such existence? What responsible ruler would allow such rot to infect his society?

Injustice, as you adroitly remarked, is a meaningless concept. Point your accusatory finger far enough, and you will quickly discover that there is not even such a concept as "innocent" man, except Jesus the Christ. Your very existence is injustice, as your life is evidence of your forebears' offing some loser in the competition for gene propagation. Cosmic justice, by dictates of logic, demands human extinction, thus, the obvert tendencies of all SWJ-type movements to auto-cannibalize. Injustice is a mere political tool for subverting or supporting current sociopolitical matrix.

I wish I knew which threats to the system you're thinking of as you write this.

From my perspective, everything seems pretty great on Steemit. Granted, I haven't been here even a year yet. And the diminished price of STEEM isn't great.

I've said before that a unique issue with STEEM is that people don't hold onto it when the price is down to wait for it to come back up the way one does with most coins. So many people are cashing it out regularly to live on, selling at any price, that it can artificially depress the price more than the overall crypto market when things are contracting.

And I know there are some abusers on here, people creating many accounts to upvote oneself, people putting out huge volumes of junk content and upvoting themselves, etc. Yet somehow I still find more good content each day than I have time to read. Still make more than I really expect to make on here, writing things I love to write. And still find such meaningful comments on most of my posts (though one dear to me seemed to get skipped over by everyone the other day).

I don't feel like a martyr. I feel so lucky! And if some want to leave a bid them farewell. I hope they are truly happier at the next place. I think the best is yet to come for this platform and I'm working on being a part of seeing that happen.

Just today I had meetings with 4 different people who are helping me put together a Steemit writing program for Native American youths on the reservations and include professional writing teachers to supplement the portions I do on using the platform successfully. We are going to be helping these teens become better readers and better writers, using Steemit to do it. I am not discouraged about this platform's future at all. It just may be a different set of people enjoying their time here, those for whom less money goes further.

I wish I knew which threats to the system

The system generalized, not just the Steem environment.

Yet somehow I still find more good content each day than I have time to read.

I agree but it depends on how one approaches content and people. Most value what they think will give them immediate advantage, it is cutting content corners and then they wonder why they do not enjoy what they consume.

And still find such meaningful comments on most of my posts (though one dear to me seemed to get skipped over by everyone the other day).

Annoying isn't it? DM me a link :)

We are going to be helping these teens become better readers and better writers, using Steemit to do it.

I tihnk that in time, there is going to be a n increasing branch of education on Steem to the point where there will be specialized dapps for it. It is likely going to be one of the most successful/influential components of the blockchain as it can bring a vast amount of organised and trusted material to many people cheaply.

Good luck :)

As a person of faith I hear ya loud and clear. Several times I've asked myself those questions about Steemit too (and I don't even have much stake here). Regardless of what anyone says, no one knows how it turns out for sure. It's left to us to keep trusting - we'll either be heroes or 'fools' in the end

extraordinary way to express yourself, definitely invent and believe in these projects makes us part of the future.

Hopefully, there is going to be a future where we aren't only the dust to build upon.

I hope with all my heart, that we are pioneers and not as dust, nor those who lost the battle.

Hope is what keeps the world alive, and cryptocurrencies do not escape this.
The future is in our hands, may not make us millionaires, not even this project will pass the beta, but in my personal case I have opened a window to an unknown world, and a free job that helps me grow and be independent.

but in my personal case I have opened a window to an unknown world, and a free job that helps me grow and be independent.

The possibilities of the people who do the learning here for the coming technologies are high. Some are looking only at the payout amounts without realizing there are future jobs in the knowledge.

That's right, steemit offers giant knowledge, some will only take advantage of the immediate payment, others will take the future from here and grow.

I think our concerns are similar, @tarazkp. I hear in the discord groups that we must jump off steem's ship before it sinks and I find it a lack of gallantry. I think if we start by jumping off the boat, there's obviously a better chance that it will sink faster. If we bet to grow, together, it will be more difficult the nafragio. . I don't think the idea is to give up but to work harder and bet on recovery. If we lose faith, then let us turn off the light because all will be lost. A hug

The people who look to jump are generally the ones who won't make the swim anyway.

Sometimes your articles are so inspiring and different...

Thank you. I hope that I can sometimes offer something others are not that helps people get a slightly different perspective and maybe, help them.

Yeah, in the end we're mirroring each other...
