Across the tracks

At the station we met and it was where we would part our ways
Dreaming from the start
The end of days the look to it all until tracks moved and tore us apart

You smiled at me once I smiled back but once was all I received
Enough it was of a taste
Though I was deceived as so often the swing of pendulum lays waste

An engine burning the fuel that could never be renewed or ever refreshed
Going nowhere forever
Didn't know we were blessed before the old controller pulled on the lever

The station was closing the train was pulling away yet there I alone stood
You were not to be seen
Hoping all I could while the warmth of you left from where you'd just been

A journey starts and the feeling is that possibility is open and free reigns
History tells another tract
Across time repeats the pains as if those in the know have made a pact

All feel they are ahead that they are able that they can beat the game
Until the end that takes
No one left to blame as reflection of past and future continues to up stakes.
