How does a bastard orphan, son of whore dragged through the mud, forgotten on the island of poverty, providence, and impoverished turn out to be a leader, a scholar and martyr or so we thought. Well, that is not my story to tell but the genius who shot him.

Alexis Hamzy was born poor and to a said whore and a scottsman. They lived at the edge of the the city of Valderum. In the time where racism was the norm. He had no education and at 10 years his father bailed on them. It was dreadful times and as he grew older he became ambitious and stronger but his mother became weaker.
At 14 he became a self starter and was kept in charge of a trading carter. And every day while slaves were being slaughtered and carted away across the waves, he struggled and kept his guard up inside, he was longing for something to be a part of the brother was ready to beg, steal, borrow, or barter.

One day a disastrous storm hit and left carnage in its wake. Alexis saw his life dripping away into the drain and it was then he knew what to do. He put a pencil to his head and connected it to his brain and wrote his first refrain and then he was recognized and people came together to send him to study in the main land. It was looking up until he found out that promises do not get the job done.

20 years now, his father absent, his mother even sicker and poverty had dug them up a trench to live in. They were bed ridden and the stench of suffering was thick in the air around them but finally Alexis got better but the same could not be said for his mother...she finally died and at this time he had had enough.

He moved in with his cousin who then committed suicide. It seemed as if only suffering and tragedy followed Alexis. With so much shame he worked for anyone who would hire him and read every book on every shelf. A voice kept telling him to keep his head up and never waver. He worked himself to the bone and studied even harder.

Finally, a ship came onshore and was to head out to the mainland where things seemed easier and a better life awaited Alexis. He went to his mother's grave for the last time and visited the compound of his father where at the window he stood and watched him wine and dine with his new family.

As the ship was ready to set sail, Alexis was right on time with his ticket and a tiny bag of his most prized possessions. As they moved on, he looked back at what was going to be his past. It was a tiring four hour trip but Alexis was full of anticipation and anxiety on what awaited him.

Toward the shores of the mainland, He stood on the bough of the ship as it docked. These were truly bad times and he had heard all the good things of the mainland but obviously not the little detail on the extremity of racism.
Alexis was shot before he stepped foot on the mainland....

That is it for today guys, If you liked it

This is sad. :(

What a sad story but beautifully written.

Hmmm life is a bundle of surprises, some good, some bad, others like this one 'tragic'.

I really loved the introductory part where you used a line from Alexander Hamilton song.
Wonderful story
Sad though
