Special Places #2: Vintgar Gorge
Anyone familiar with the ancient Yugoslavia certainly has heard of the existence of the Ptitvice waterfalls in Croatia, considered a World Heritage Centre by UNESCO. Due to its location and entrance price, you can certainly visit another more affordable and more economical place: Vintgar Gorge.
Location
It is located near the Lake Bled in Slovenia, and even though it isn't as beautiful as the waterfalls, it is a more affordable place. All those who decide to travel to Slovenia, cannot pass without a visit to Lake Bled, and making a stop by Vintgar Gorge certainly doesn't cost anything, because most are completely unaware of the existence of this place, being located 2KM from the center of the village.
Vintgar Gorge runs about 1.6 km and was discovered in 1891 by Jakob Zumer and Biedikt Lergetporer. It was there that the Radovna River excavated a canyon of walls, which are almost 100 meters high. Incredible, isn't it?
Discovery
In order to enter in Vintgar Gorge, a commission of 5 euros is paid and, during the first hundred meters, it is noticed that it is crossed along the Radovna river. But the true spectacle begins later because what the visitors say is that after a hundred meters, there are several ponds and enlargements of the cradle of the river, certainly placed by human hand since it jumps to the human eye that the waters are too limpid.
It is important to note that the Vintgar Gorge is only open to the public only in the high season, and in the low season the terrain is maintained. The trees need to be cut, the lakes to be revised, so that everything goes well during the high season, and there is no problem with the visitors and everyone leaves satisfied!

I don't mean to impose or anything, but maybe I can answer your questions. The gorge is open for visitors usually from April to October, with the weather in summer being fantastic, just like over the whole of our country :) Usually a lot of sunshine, with temps around or over 30°C. If you come to visit don't forget about the town Bled, which is also mentioned in the post, and is also just amazing.
A really wonderful and amazing place! One feels so small surrounded by big walls, and the water is simply beautiful. I definitely recommend a visit. The power of the water to carve through all that rock, its untamed nature at its best.
