Ask Questions You Would Like Answered on the Next Steemprentice Hangout: Sunday, Nov 13th, 2-4pm CST

in #steemprentice7 years ago (edited)

Steemprentice is the mentoring/help initiative that's been assisting new or struggling Steemit users by answering questions and/or providing feedback to better understand or achieve more success on the site.

The idea of this hangout is to continue this trend outside of the #steemprentice channel in steemit.chat. Anyone is welcome to join, but if you have questions or topics you would like to hear answered or discussed, simply put them as a comment on this post.

The next Steemprentice Hangout will be Sunday Nov 13th, from 2-4 pm CST: hosted on Beyond Bitcoin Mumble. Click here for instructions on how to download this program and join us.

This can range from anything such as explaining Steem/Steem Power/Steem Dollars, asking for clarification on the upcoming changes the witnesses will vote on next week, what's a witness, so suggestions on a specific post of yours that you feel should have done better. There's no question off limits and you don't even have to have a Steemit account to join in should you have friends or family that might be on the fence about joining. This is focused on providing another way to provide help and further understanding for existing or perspective Steemit users.

What Questions Do you Have on Steemit, Cryptocurrency or anything?

@officialfuzzy has graciously donated a voice chat channel on the Beyond Bitcoin mumble (the voice chat program) server to host this event. This channel is also available for other users simply hit record and be able to create non-written content such as podcasts, poetry readings, discussions, interviews, or anything that you can imagine.

Here is the first Steemprentice Hangout where we covered the most frequently asked questions we've heard in the mentor/help group and then got into great discussions on recent changes and directions we would like to see Steemit be able to go in:

[NOTE: Any Steemit users can make use of this room for recording poetry, discussions, interviews, podcasts, music, etc. This is a great option for creating content outside writing itself. You simply hit record and the audio file when be put on your desktop when ended.]

Keep Smilin' and Steem On!

Which is the true problem of steem its price to fallen too much and not recovered.
Are you sure the future of steemit?
Because I no longer receive payments from steem dollars I only receive payments from steem and steem power. thank you very much.
Exclente post congratulations
Many thanks for the dollar steem deposited in my account

Some of these I want to leave for the hangout where there are others around to help provide their expertise and views. But I did want to at least respond on the steem dollar question.

Steem dollars are considered a debt (since they can be traded in for the approximate $1 USD worth of Steem.) The SD's have ideal levels (from what I read in @dantheman's post here) at around 1% or so of the market cap (which is just the current share price of steem multiplied by the total number of shares.) As the price of steem (and hence the market cap) goes down, the Steem Dollars become a larger p.ercentage of the market cap. Since the goal of the Steem Dollar is to be pegged to the US dollar there are certain points where changes kick in to help maintain this.

As this percentage of SD's vs the market cap went beyond 3%, we began to see more rewards paid in Steem instead of SD's (i.e. printing less steem dollars) which @ausbitbank made a great post about here. Once the Steem Dollar to market cap percentage went above 5% ALL rewards were then being paid as Steem (hence stopping Steem Dollar printing) which @ausbitbank again touched on here.

There are other SD percentage thresholds where other actions 'kick in' to help prevent certain 'black swan' events, which I've so far seen at 20% of the market cap. Since I think I remember seeing another option or two out there (like losing the peg to the USD and instead set to 10% of the market cap itself,) I do want to make sure this part in particular is discussed on the hangout since I don't want to put inaccurate information out there.

The one that I am able to find is in a @dantheman post on Steem Dollar Stability enhancements that says:

Any time the Steem Dollar supply reaches 20% of the market cap, 1% of everyone’s Steem Dollars will be converted to Steem Power at the price feed.

Feel free to ask if you would like any of the above clarified. I'll do my best and/or reach out to others. I don't claim to be perfect. :)

TL;DR The stopped printing and giving Steem Dollars for post rewards because the debt of existing Steem Dollars was to high a percentage of the market cap. This is done to help keep the 1 SD = $1 USD (defined acceptible within 0.90 and 1.10 range) peg in place with other measures in place to help 'black swan' events.

And your very welcome for the Steem Dollars I sent for the Steemit Talk Podcast Halloween Contest voters choice prize! :D

I have an Ipad. The markdown tool bar doesn't work for me. Do I have options? Thanks!

Have you tried www.steempower.org/editor out? It's a steemit editor @charlieshrem had made, you can even have it post through there if you sign in. If don't want to sign in you can copy/ paste it over. (Just make sure you select markdown in the steemit editor before pasting)

If that doesn't work either, you can try download a markdown editor for the ipad like markdownpad through the app store. If none of those work, you can try using a template (check free-templates tag on steemit) or i can always put one together to suit your needs.

Ideally the new medium like editor the devs have been working on will fix the entire issue for you. But i at least wanted to offer solutions for now.

Feel free to dm me in steemit.chat or on discord you have any issues with these. Sure we can find a solution for you :)

All new info for me. I'll check them out and get back to you what the results are.
