A WRONG CALL

These days, there was a lot of work in my office due to the annual closing of accounts. And we had received information that after 15 days a team was also going to come to audit the accounts of our company.

And whenever I got information about the arrival of such a team, there was only one fear in my mind that now for the whole 10 days, our entire accounting department of which I am in charge, will hardly be able to eat or go home and sleep peacefully.

Then I checked my last account of that day closely and looking at my experienced assistants, I smiled and asked them "Friends, if you will take care of the rest of the accounts, then I want to go home now because I am feeling tired after working for many days."

All my assistants knew that I do not shy away from any work, and never ask to go home before the work is over. That is why all of them unanimously told me to go home and rest and also assured me that they will not go home from here without completing the work.

I heaved a sigh of relief. I picked up my mobile phone, glasses, keys etc. and after leaving the office, I reached the parking lot, took out my Honda WRV from there and headed straight for home. It was around 11 pm then and the roads had become deserted.

By the time I reached home, it was 11.30 pm. My wife opened the door in a drowsy state and called me inside. She heated the food till I changed my clothes.

I ate alone and came to the bedroom to sleep. My wife was also already sleeping in a corner. I quietly lay down on my side and put my mobile phone on charging. I was neither used to using this mobile nor was I fond of it. I only listen to incoming calls sometimes.

And then at around 12.30 pm, I got a call on my phone and when I received it, the speaker was on by mistake. A very melodious voice of a woman came from the other side, "Hello darling, you did not come today, I was waiting for you impatiently." Today again you betrayed me.

I asked, "Who are you and whom do you want to talk to? I did not recognize you."

In reply to my question, she asked in a low voice, "Have you reached home? Does your wife stay with you?"

Then I saw that my wife was also awake and listening to all this.

And I disconnected the call out of fear. But my position had deteriorated. My wife was suspecting me because of that call.

Finally, she said to me, "So this is happening in office late at night these days?"

I was shocked. I tried to explain to her that there is nothing like that. I extremely tried to tell her it is just a missed/wrong call.

But she snatched the phone from my hands and started checking it. Then suddenly she started laughing loudly.

I was not able to understand anything. What happened to her? Why is she laughing?

Then I asked her with fear, why are you laughing? She said to me very lovingly, "Hey fool, this is not your phone, you have mistakenly picked up the phone of any one of your assistants."

After hearing this, my breath which was stuck in my throat came back. And I switched off the phone.

I tried to sleep again. A major accident was averted. It was only due to my wife's intelligence that I was saved from her ferocious form.
