أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا

"WE have made the earth as a depth and mountains as everlay" {QS. An-Nabaa' : 6-7}.

In the above verse that the earth as "stretch" and mount as "peg". The crust consists of plates that are piled together. In the word "stretch" means plates. It is like the plates are like a wood that is piled up and the mountain like a nail. So that the wood does not move, it must be plugged nails, that's the term we suppose.

The mountains emerged as a result and collisions from the giant plates that formed the earth's crust. In the thicker part of the continent, as in the mountain range, the earth's crust jutted into the magma layer. Equilibrium in the earth's crust is maintained by the flow of rock material beneath the surface due to gravitational pressure.

Geologists say that the depth of the earth is 300,780 miles. Its core is hot and liquid, its exterior is a thin crust, just 1-20 miles thick and there is a high probability it will shake because of the folding phenomenon that creates mountains that prevent the earth from shocks.

In another verse also explain what that means:

“And We have made on this earth mountains firm, so that the earth will not shake with them.” {QS. Al-Anbiyya: 31}.

In the verse it is clear that the function of the mount is to withstand the shaking, in that verse Allah "makes the mountains firm". In the word "we made", God has made a functioning mountain. In the word "that the earth would (not) shake with them", this is a function of the mountain, that is its function of holding back the earth to keep it balanced.
