A question for short fat guys that conceal carry

in #guns5 years ago

I should be getting my License to Carry pretty soon, and I will be carrying concealed...or at least that is the plan.

I'll be getting a G26, and there will be no external light/laser.

I am 5'7 and 220 lbs. I am thickchested and thick in thighs. I have a dunlap for sure.

What is the best method of concealed carry for a short, fat guy using a subcompact pistol?

Sort:

armpit carry.

one option, and depending on how things shake out, I may be wearing a lot of hawaiin shirts

which is good because as a fat guy, I already have a lot

You need to find which method is comfortable for you. It could be 3:00 IWB like most people or you might be that rare crossdraw.

The most important part, though, is to train from that position with that weapon and become proficient.

The stages of the draw, follow through, grip, retention, reloads, malfunctions.

What about if you're wounded? Lose the use of a leg?

There's an entire new world waiting for you. :-)

good point...training is crucial

I will be attending IDPA matches; not for competition, but for more realistic training

I carry an SDs either in my pocket or on my waist. Holstered, of course. But those are the only two ways I ever carry and I always carry. We are "allowed" to open carry any on my waist with a shirt over it is my preference, but open is fine too. When I open carry, I try to dress a bit nicer.

Wear whatever you want. Most people don't even notice.

This comes from ten years of open carry. I did it before it was cool.

The only people who had an issue with it were mostly caliber warriors and the occasional lineral who would run across a busy road to tell me how dangerous I am.

Do you. Don't worry about anyone else.

If I dress up (suit), I'll wear a shoulder rig. Trying to decide between ankle and IWB (maybe belly band with kydex shell) for other times

I'm not an expert but I have heard bad things about ankle carry, do you really want to have to grab your ankles if attacked?

I'm 5'7" and similar build and I carried a S&W 686 with a 10" barrel in a shoulder rig. Of course, I didn't care if it printed.

I live in a city/county controlled by pinkos, plus I criticize their garbage on a continual basis

not giving them any excuses ;>

That's exactly why I didn't care. When I moved into the house where I carried my shiny stainless treasure, I found around a dozen different types of shell casings in the yard, from .22 short, clear on up to .44 mag. It was a dangerous neighborhood, and I had babies. I wanted folks to have a reason to think not just twice about causing trouble, but over and over, until it dawned on them they were better off not.

Then I left Portland. Life is much better on the coast.
