It is the day after the 2018 Winter Olympics and we want to take a look back at one of the best Winter Olympic athletes of the last 20 years. American snowboarder, Shaun White, has had a spectacular career for Team USA.
White is 31 years old and I sure hope that he continues his incredible career in snowboarding. It would be amazing to see him in the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China. He is on the wrong side of 30 but with his work ethic and talent, anything is possible.

He won his first Olympic Gold medal way back in 2006 in Torino. The Halfpipe quickly became White’s signature event and he was an instant super star in the sport with his crazy red hair and bright smile. He wasn’t even old enough to buy a beer in the United States but proudly wore his Olympic Gold around his neck. White would return to the Winter Olympics four years later in Vancouver. He would once again dazzle the crowd and win his second Gold medal. But White’s fairy tale would take a wrong turn at the 2014 Olympics. He would fail to win a medal and finished in fourth place. It appeared as his Olympic career may be over and that did not sit well with him.

Shaun White had a decision to make. Should he float off in the sunset and enjoy his life in California and play in his band and live the rock star life or should he commit himself to training for the 2018 Olympics? White not only decided to give the Olympics another shot, but he trained relentlessly and came up with new tricks that defied gravity. But White’s dream of the 2018 Olympics almost died before he stepped foot on South Korean soil. He sustained a horrific head injury while training that nearly kept him out of competition. His face had to be sewn back on and he kept on moving forward.
He would pick the most important time of his life to have his best Halfpipe run. White absolutely shredded the course in the finals of the 2018 Winter Olympic Men’s Halfpipe. It was the performance of a life time. 12 years after winning his first Gold medal, Shaun White was once again an Olympic Champion. Although father time might be telling White to sail off into the sunsets, I sure hope he doesn’t listen. I would love to see Shaun White in Beijing in 2022.
