The Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago Cubs will wrap up their weekend series today in MLB action. First pitch is scheduled for 1:20pm Central Standard Time and the game can be seen on National Television on WGN and Fox Sports Ohio. It will take place at Wrigley Field in Chicago, Illinois. The weather forecast does call for temps nearing the 90’s and a chance of thunderstorms so there is a possibility for a rain delay.
The Cubs enter today’s game feeling good after winning 4 straight games. If they can complete the sweep of the Reds today, it would be their longest winning streak since May. The Cubs put up 10 runs on Saturday and hit three home runs. Javier Baez, Daniel Murphy, and Kyle Schwarber all went deep in the win.
Today the Cubs will send right handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks to the mound. It has been an up and down year for Hendricks who is 9-10 so far with an ERA of 4.04. He has had some good success though overall in his career against the Reds and is very familiar with their line up.
The Cubs have extended their lead in the National League Central to 4 games over the St. Louis Cardinals and 4.5 games over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Reds are sitting in last place in the division and have had no hope at the playoffs for several weeks. But they still can play spoiler and try and take down the teams ahead of them.
Homer Bailey will get the ball today for the Reds. Bailey has had some very good years in the MLB but this is not one of them. Bailey is having the worst season of his career and he may be the worst pitcher in all of baseball right now. He is 1-11 on the year and has an ERA of 6.21. His WHIP is horrible too at 1.62. If the Cubs are patient at the plate today, it could be a rough afternoon for Bailey and the Reds.
